Elimination Communication – Week 8

I started full Night-Time ECing this week with Darius in the early morning of 6th Feb 2009. ( Dar @ 6.5months)

Week 8 ECing

Day 43 – 04 Feb09 Wed
He’s getting more restless at night. He’ll call out in his sleep and I’ll bring him to pee. He’ll then sleep back for another hour but will wake up again. I’m constantly changing diapers at night because he seemed to be wetting it often and I don’t want him to sleep in a wet diaper thus not knowing the sensation.

He’ll also be peeing once I opened the diaper after a trip out though the diaper was wet already. It shows that he really does not want to pee into the diaper but had no choice since we are not tuned in to him when outside.

Day 44 – 05 Feb09 Thurs
He wakes up in the early morning and kept crying out loud disturbing our sleep. I had already change the diapers and he couldn’t possibly be hungry because it was 2am in the morning and not his usual feeding time. Then, he pooped again into his diaper at 7plus during a feed. I’m thinking, why can’t I just catch it in the potty and save wiping his backside so many times to make it clean?

I started reading up more on night-time ECing. It’s something we should start doing soon though it would not affect Ecing on the whole but it might affect his wetting the bed when he gets older. Am I really ready to take the plunge of waking up several times in the night? Then, I told myself. I’m ALREADY waking up anyway with him kept crying out loud for no apparent reason. It also frustrates me when my head is groggy and I don’t know whether he’s teething, he wants to pee, has peeed or is hungry.

I told hubby, ‘”Let’s just start ECing at night too! See how.”

Day 45 – 06 Feb09 Fri (STARTED NIGHT-TIME ECING)
I started out with putting Darius in pants and using a terry cloth insert (from the BW cloth diaper) between his legs. He cried out for pee at 2330hrs and I took him to the toilet for a pee with the lights off but outside doorway light on. He peeed and went back to sleep.

At near to 12 plus, I checked him and he had wetted his pants and need a change. I changed the terry cloth which isn’t very securely attached to him because he moves during his sleep and he wetted it again during 0200hrs to 0300hrs, crying badly. He hates being wet I think. Ooopps.

Finally, I decided to take the unused BW cloth diapers out and used them on him with the pants over them and this time, he stayed dry all the wat til 0530hrs, when he cried out and stirred in his sleep. I woke up and took him to pee in the potty and there was A LOT. Then, he went back to sleep again and when he woke up at 0650hrs, I changed him out of the CD into nappy cloth because I don’t want him to wet it during feeding and it was STILL dry! GREAT. I’m really pleased with this fast progress. Just one night and there’s results.

While feeding, I saw him push and I quickly place in onto the potty which is put ontop of the mattress. Then, he pooped immediately into it while I continued singing songs and making the ‘hmm hmm’ sounds.

He protested when he finally finished so I took him out and give his buttocks a little wipe with the wet wipe and that’s it! No more wiping and wiping to get the butts clean. As a precaution, I just went to the bathroom to wash his butt with a little water and pat clean.

I realised then that it was because he was without disposables diapers that he did not cried so badly anymore and also I was able to catch his pooping in the potty easily because I fed him on my lap and look for his signs as opposed to just letting him feed in his diaper. He’ll not poop when I’m carrying him once I noticed him pushing and will finish in the potty.
