Diaper-Free Journey Wk 6

Elimination Communication -Week 6

Day 30- 21st Jan 09  Wed (stayed dry for quite long)

Poo:
He pooped two times in the morning again. Seemed that once we did not feed him the ‘good bacteria’ medicine that the doctor gave, his stools became watery and more frequent again. Once was in the early morning at around 0530hrs and another just before his bath and after his morning nap. He doesn’t call out to me for poops probably because he isn’t aware of passing them since they are so soft.

Pee:
I’m missing less and less nowadays because he signals clearly and I wait for him to give me the signal and tell me before I bring him to potty. I’m thus less hang up about the time intervals he peeed. Now he likes to ‘sigh’ before he pees and does not go ‘hoo hoo hoo’ anymore.

From the chart, I discovered that he actually lasted 50mins intervals throughout the day. My misses are still during feed which is something that cannot be easily done since he’s lying down to drink his milk.

In the evening, he gave a signal but then refused the potty when I bought him to it. I changed to the two bathrooms but he still refused. Then, he finally peeed when I put him down. Not sure why he sometimes protested.

Nap (2/4 dry):
He stayed dry for two naps in the afternoon and evening.

Night-Time Elimination:
He’s still crying out at night after a feed but not necessary that he was dry. I just change his diapers and let him continue to sleep.

What’s new:
- He refused potty before a nap and missed.
-I’m pottying him solely based on his signals now instead of wondering about the time.
-He’s wearing shorts now and only uses nappy cloth occasionally for feeding and sometimes, napping.
-He gives a sigh before he pees and does not make hoo hoo noises anymore.

Day 31- 22nd Jan 09  Thu (More bladder control)

Poo:
Again I tried pottying him for poo in the early morning if he has not wetted his diaper yet but he didn’t want to. After the series of diarrhoea episodes, it’s difficult to get him to understand pooping as sitting there and bearing down though I kept making ‘eng hmmm’ noises. Hope he’ll come around to this again.

Then, at the 1030hrs feed where he likes to do his pooping, I saw him bearing down and quickly hold him over the potty beside the mattress and he finally pooped.

Pee:
He’s very cranky today and fusses and cried a lot while pottying him. It was because he was dry for intervals of 1 hr or more and I couldn’t quite believe him and took him to potty before he signals. In the afternoon, he was even dry for a whole 2 hrs where in between he took a nap and after the 1hr nap, refused bathroom, potty and protested greatly. Then, finally I got him to pee into the potty another hour after. I was afraid he might held it too long and thus was anxious.

Naps (3/3):
He took three naps and all dry! One nap was 1hr 40mins, one 50mins and another 1 hr.

What’s new:
- He stayed dry for two long intervals of around 2hr and we never missed at all except during feeds and after a bath.

Pees caught – 8/14 Average Stay Dry – 40mins Longest Stay Dry- 2hr 10mins

Day 32- 23rd Jan 09  Fri (Wakes up to call me for help with peeing and sleeps back again)

Poo:
He pooped in his diaper in the early morning and another time a little during the feed.

Pee:
I’m missing only feed pees and walker pee now. His average interval is about 50mins now. We went out in the evening but because we are busy shopping, we aren’t prepared to bring him to the toilet at times when he appeared fussy. Guess we have to work on that somehow.

Nap:
During the afternoon nap, he woke up crying after sleeping for 50mins. I took him to pee with him still crying and sleepy. Then, I put him back to bed where he woke up 1 hr later. So it seemed that if he have the urge, he will wake and call for me to take him to pee and go back to sleep again instead of wetting himself. That’s a good progress.

Night-Time Elimination:
He cried only a short while after he slept and the moment I opened his diaper, he peeed. So he’s trying to communicate his urge even when sleeping for the night.

What’s new:
- He wakes up from a nap crying to be taken to potty and could easily sleep back again and hold his bladder for another pee later.

Pees caught – 6/12 Average Stay Dry – 50mins Longest Stay Dry- 1hr 25mins

Day 33- 24th Jan 09  Sat (Hr intervals, good control)

Poo:
Again he poo soft into his diaper in the early morning mainly because he usually do it during the early morning feed while still in diapers. After his 1hr nap, he refused to go in the sink, so I placed him on the potty to try.

To help his peeing, I fed him the milk while he’s sitting on the potty. It was 1hr 20mins already. Suddenly, he farted and even pooped into the potty while still drinking his milk. It’s funny how he’s filling his insides from the top yet expelling whatever he has below. It’s torturing to be sitting like that drinking but it really helps save washing a nappy!

Pee:
He is having 1hr or more than 1hr intervals again which is a good sign indicating his greater bladder control.

Out and About:
We went out in the afternoon for the reunion dinner at my mum’s place and after his nap, he was crying a bit so I opened his diaper and cue him to go in it. He responded well.

What’s new:
- He pooped while drinking upright.
-He gave fussy cry for peeing and I cued him to go in the diaper while outside.

Day 34- 25th Jan 09  Sun

Poo:
He pooped three times today and all during feeds! Gosh. His pooping is still rather irregular. It has been quite long since this wet poop episodes, why isn’t he recovering yet?

Pee:
We went out almost the whole day so there’s nothing much to catch. We are still not doing much outside peeing as it’s too troublesome with other people around or can’t find a good location to do it.

Day 35- 26th Jan 09  Mon

Poo:
He pooped in the exersaucer in his shorts today so we had to wash the cover. That was his third poop again. Sigh…

Pee:
He stayed dry for two naps out of four.
