Despite today being a public holiday (Hari Raya Puasa), Darius still woke up very early in the morning at around 6.45am, as a result of him gotten used to his sleep early, wake early routine for the weekdays. We had expected him to wake up early even on a non school day, so we had already tried to sleep early the night before. Still, it’s not easy to bring myself to wake up that early on my non working day.

Darius climbed over each of us as his way to greet us Good Morning and waking us up. I then brought him to the toilet for his morning pee. Thereafter, he immediately ran towards the bedroom’s door and started banging on it eagerly, signalling to us that he wanted to go out to the living room. Going back to sleep certainly wasn’t an option for him.

Once out, after I switched on the lights and fans, Darius quickly dashed towards his book shelf and picked up the book Goodnight Moon from it. He then carried the book and sat down onto the sofa, waiting for me to read it to him!

Wow, to think reading was the first thing that came into his mind right after he woke up, instead of reaching for his toys or other stuff. Catherine had mentioned to me yesterday too that after he returned from his cc, Darius was quickly picking up books from the shelf for her to read together with.

Catherine believes that since he gets to see and interact with us lesser now that he’s on a full-day session in the cc, Darius treasures his time with us even more and uses our reading activities together as bonding time with him. He probably feels a strong bond with us whenever we are sitting next to each other and reading to him.

Darius beckoning me to go over and read the next book to him

In the end, we read through six books back to back, namely Goodnight Moon, Owl Babies, Dr Seuss’ Alphabet Book, The Shape of Me and Other Stuff, Ten Apples Up On Top and Hop on Pop. After we finished reading each book, he would head for the book shelf, ponder for a moment in front of it before picking out the book of his choice and making his way back to the sofa with me.

"Hmm... Which book should I choose next?"

Having chosen his next book, Darius would return to the sofa promptly

Nowadays, Darius has this unique reading habit — we must read the title of each book and the small prints at the bottom of the front cover (which usually consists of the author and artist of the book) before he will flip to the next page and start reading. For example with the Goodnight Moon book, he will point out to the ‘by’ word at the bottom (and saying the word) after I have read the title to him, he will wait for me to read through the entire lines of ‘By Margaret Wise Brown, Pictures by Clement Hurd‘ before he will be willing to proceed on. And after reading each book, he will flip back to the front cover and wanting me to read the title and the small prints again, before he is satisfied and put back the book onto the shelf. ^^|
