Recaps of Last Week
Dated: 2nd of Aug – 8th of August 2010

…Captured Moments of him. His happiness at the playground and his seriousness while drinking Vitagen. Drinking Vitagen to him is serious business and you would see him seated on a chair or just standing still, holding the bottle and concentrating hard on sipping it. Nothing will distract him away from drinking his favourite drink.

…Him developing a liking for comfort items. He has never needed anything soft. Soft toys and blankets always get tossed aside. He has a bolster but I would be the one helping him to hug it while getting him ready for sleep at night. Just very recently, he started taking his bolster between his legs while drinking milk, even during daytime naps and also want the blanket for cover. He is starting to find comfort in them. He still drinks his afternoon milk on the sofa so he tried to place the storybook in between his legs instead. Ha.

…The Rabbit and The Scoop. His new ‘funny’ behaviour this week. He found these two old favourite items in the toy basket. He used to play with the scoop all the time, banging it here and there. He used to play with the rabbit too, swinging it here and there. So now, with his love for ‘two items’, he took hold of the two of them in each hand and started walking, swinging and banging around the house for several days in the week. Even when we carried him, he wouldn’t let go. And…the rabbit is always on the left, the scoop always on the right.

…Stacking and Pushing. He finally started stacking the Lego bricks! Two weeks ago, he was just playing with the windows, going open and close. This is a surprise because he hadn’t done that before. He does not do ‘building’ kind of play with play bricks or foam. Hope this continues and the Lego toy gets its use. He likes to move around on the small babyish ride now but this was the first time, he started pushing the trolley too. It was quite tedious as he had to move his legs to push the car and use his hands to push at the same time. He also started to use the words, “Pull” and “Push” correctly and speaking them more accurately.

…His Bedtime Routine. He always does his somersaults on our bed every night before his bedtime at 9pm. We will pack him to bed at around 8:15pm, change him into PJs and stay in the room with him while he tumbles and plays with us on our bed. He managed to turn over a few times himself but most of the time, he gets stuck in the head-down position and needs our help to move him over.

…Jumping Exercise. The only place where we practise his jumping is from our bed to his. This is another fun thing we do before he sleeps. Daddy holds his hands and gets him to jump from our bed to his 8-inch mattress bed on the floor. As an added excitement, I will be behind and giving him a little push on his back. Then, he will squeal and ‘jump’ down. He’s still not good at it and seldom lifts both his legs off to make a nice jump. Usually he does it with one leg off followed by another. Sometimes, he lands on his belly, sometimes, he stands straight up. He does not dare to jump unless someone is there to hold his hand so most of the time, he just stands at the edge and contemplates.

…Friday Night-Out. Went to Sakae Sushi to eat for our Friday Night Outing. He had home-made porridge with some chawanmushi. He used to hate it but now loves it. Went to the Library after that to read and borrow some books for him. Found his favourite story, Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. (We had been watching on Youtube)

…Stepping over Lines. He started stepping over lines or breaks on a path. He would purposely open his legs wide to cross over them whenever he came across one, even a very thin line. Once there were several breaks on the ground and he was avoiding them and stepping over each! It reminded us that we used to play this too when we were children!

…Fearfulness in the Pool. With the earlier experience of him being afraid of water play in a small pool of water, we decided to bring him to the swimming pool to let him get used to it. Brought him to the swimming complex on Sunday and he was so terrified of the water! He was fine on the stepping platform when the water was around his legs but once I held him to step into the pool, he was whining non-stop and clinging to me tightly in fear. He was so fearful of the water around his middle that he just refused to move an inch. After a while, I sat down and placed him on my lap and he started happily touching the water around. I thought he had warmed up and started peeling him away but he kept struggling to hold on to me again!
He has always been afraid initially when we bring him to a water place but never for more than a few minutes so this was really bad. I was wondering whether that would be a wasted trip when Daddy decided to join in and immediately, instantly…he just stepped away from me and stood happily in the water, walking over to Daddy and splashing around with his hands! O_o I spent 10-15 minutes trying to pacify him and he was suddenly alright when he saw the BOTH of us. I know it’s not because he felt safer with Daddy because in the past, it had always been Daddy bringing him in first and he also whined non-stop. So we realised that the magic formula is, BOTH of us must be in the water with him to make him feel safe with the water. After the swim when Daddy walked over to get our things from the locker, he also started whining, very afraid to see him leaving.

Love the part you describe how he avoid stepping on the cracks and lines! Totally reminds me of my younger brother doing that when he was a little boy. He progressed from a step over the line to a jump over the line after that. So perhaps, Dar will be doing that next!
Ha. Shows that children tend to behave the same way.^^ Another favourite is the Zebra Crossing I think. Only on the white and not on the black.
