(while I’m still trying to work on my recap for last week…some snippets recorded so far)
1.Fear of Water
We discovered that he is afraid of pools of water. We felt that when we brought him to the Resort during our last holiday trip when he kept crying just walking in the shallow waters which reached to his knees but he quickly got used to it and liked it. However, last Saturday, he was crying to get away when his Daddy brought him near to the lake at Punggol Park.
Then, on Monday, when he had water-play in school, his teacher had a hard time convincing him to go near the pool of water. The moment he saw it, he cried. When she brought him over to want to put him into the pool, he just kept struggling and kicking away to get out. He ended up watching his classmates playing in the water while seated on a nearby bench. He always like to play with water in the shower, and in the water parks so we were quite surprised at this reaction. Guess we need to start bringing him to swim to get used to the water.
2.Two Words
Forgot to record in the previous snippet that he also knows how to say “no more”.
3. Chinese Name
Was teaching him the Chinese Version of the dialogue. “Who are You?” “I am Darius”. He managed to say his Chinese Name.
4. New English Words
He finally said, “Walk” clearly.
When I asked him to stand, he did imitate me to say “Stand” but not as clear yet.
5. Song
Though he likes music, we had never heard him sing in tune. It always sounded more like talking. Tuesday night, he started ‘saying’ “Twinkle Twinkle little Star” while Daddy was singing to him. We were surprised as he started reciting while lying down, “T..inkle..tinkle..star..up above…” Usually he would say “up above” when we sang that song but this time, he was reciting more words.
Wednesday afternoon on our way to the bus-stop after fetching him from school, I was telling him “Rain rain” (cos it was drizzling) and he started saying “…go..awi..Come…” I immediately grasped that he was ‘singing’, “Rain rain go away” a song I always sing to him while fetching him and it was raining. So I sang with him and he sometimes repeated after me in a not clear way or began my next sentence of song.
It’s a good start for him that he’s trying to say more words in a sentence structure.
Sadly, he still picked up more English words than Mandarin though we speak Mandarin primarily at home. I want him to be able to speak more Mandarin to communicate with his grandparents who do not know English. I think I need to work on more Chinese dialogues and start reading more chinese books.
