Recap ~ July Week 4

Posted Under (Darius' 22-24mths, Everyday Life) on Monday, 26 July 2010 at 11:43 pm

Recaps again. Am loving this new way of posting because I got to relive those happy memories for the past week through the photographs and write less!

However, I still spend too much time on getting the photos into the layout. Oh well. I still need to write out his developments for 2 years old in a post and will get to it soon. It will be useful later when I need to read back for recording in scrapbook.

♫ I Wish To Remember…

His Laughter At Dinner One Day. Daddy took out some word cards from the YBCR DVDs to read to Darius and got him to recognise some words for this week. He was reading ‘diaper’. A while later, he started laughing and laughing. Can’t remember exactly why but maybe we were playing the ‘Stare-at-each-other-and-laugh-Game’. I would look at him with a smile, he would look at me with a smile, we kept staring into each other’s eyes and see who ended up laughing. He could not stand the pressure and ALWAYS burst out laughing first. Hee.

The Amount of Food He Eats Now At Dinner (2 yr old). About 3/4 or almost a bowl of rice (Corelle cereal bowl) with veggies, meat and drenched with soup. Soup was about 1/4 small bowl. This particular meal was ginger soya chicken, stir-fry cabbage (both minced to bits with blender), potato and carrots were from soup and some pork meat from the ribs.

The Bad Scrape on His Knee. This was the ‘I-can’t-even-remember-the-number‘ time he fell down while walking home or going out. His knees and legs have some markings on them now due to countless falls and scrapes. Luckily, he’s not a girl… This was a particularly stupid fall because he was just walking slowly beside me. The next moment, plop! He was on the ground with his knee rubbing against the hard cement floor and howling in pain. There wasn’t even a rock on that flat pavement nor was he running! But the whole kneecap was bruised badly with some skin taken off and he even limped for the whole afternoon! Every time he bathed, he also cried. This really confused me because he had worse falls than this and he got over it quickly. So he earned himself a plaster for the first time so we could keep the applied ointment from his itchy hands (I’d never applied ointment in the past as we couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t touch it and put his fingers into his mouth).

That He Could Take Off His Shoes but still have difficulty with his Socks. This is our daily routine after coming back from school. He was happy and proud of himself when he got the shoes off. However, he grew frustrated and started whining when he couldn’t take the socks off. Normally, I would help him move the socks down to the back of his feet and he would remove the rest by himself. He uses two hands and sometimes, one. This time, I wanted to see if he could take them off fully without help but he wasn’t ready yet.

…That he loves walking up and down the stairs of the playground. He’s always the only person playing at the playground while taking an evening walk with Daddy (7 plus to 8pm). We hardly see people downstairs at night. Probably because most people aren’t even back from work yet or they are catching TV shows. For us, we have time because we do not watch TV programmes and Hubby starts work early, thus ending work early too. We will chat over dinner about news, about events in the day. Hubby will then play, read to, take a walk with Darius while I read the newspaper or wash the dishes.

…That We Enjoyed Going for Dinner At A Favourite Eatery on A Friday Night. It’s our favourite night. It’s the start of the weekend, two days of fun or rest. No need to work, no need to send and fetch. Woah! Sometimes, we would enjoy dinner at a nice place and be in a ‘celebratory’ mood. Dar was trying to walk up the travellator and keeping his balance. He had only tried to walk once or twice before. And how great that photo turned out with the two of them having the same expressions!

That He Was Terrified of Fireworks. Watched the Fireworks at Marina Square due to the National Day Rehearsal. Look at the bottom right of Dar wailing while the beautiful display lit up the entire sky. He is extremely terrified of thunderous sounds, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! I could never get him to sleep back if a thunderstorm started after he slept. He would wake up running to me, wailing and holding on tight. It had happened twice recently due to thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Him playing the Lego Toy by himself and Ball with WaiPo. He started saying ‘Window’ recently and here he was, opening and closing the windows we set up for him. He was at it for a while, even moving a little car through the exit. This was cool because he is doing more and more of pretend play now. In the past, I had wondered if he might be lacking creativity or imagination since he seldom plays this way by himself. At night, he also had a fun time playing with WaiPo and called ‘Wai Kong’ (he said ‘vai kung’ in English monotones, very funny) several times to my Dad which made him so happy. He would call ‘Wai Kong’ whenever I asked him to call ‘Wai Po’.

Nowadays, he likes to do the opposite. If I tell him to call Mama (to practise saying sentences), he would say, “Daddy”. If we tell him to stand up, he would sit down. If I say, ‘衣服’,he would chant, “shirt…shirt…shirt”, refusing to say after me though he had said it before. Anything we say that he knows, he would not say it properly or imitate our speech, he would say the opposite or something related to it. Example would be, if we say chair, he would say ‘table’. He constantly wanted to be ahead of us and to show off his knowledge. Made me really irritated with him because it’s difficult to talk like this!
