Darius’ First World Cup

I’m officially one of the millions of people around the world following closely to the ongoing once-in-four-years World Cup 2010, especially when each match is a do-all-die to the teams since the tournament is now in its knockout stages.

When the tournament was still in its group stage a week ago, three matches were telecast live everyday and the earliest match would begin at 7.30pm. If the match on that day happened to be an interesting one, I would redirect my quality time with Darius during those times over to the television. Fortunately for me, Darius has been very cooperative nowadays and when he knows his parents are ‘busy’, he would not go and disturb us while keeping himself occupied with other things. ^^|

Of course I do feel somewhat guilty to abandon him during those periods, so I will usually hand him our iPod Touch so that he could watch some videos while sitting on the sofa as I received my football dosage on our TV. Catherine would occasionally be watching selected matches with me too.

I enjoy seeing him seated on the sofa with a small cushion sitting on his lap, as he looks very comfy in that setup (I just hope he won’t grow up to be a crouch potato). Anyway, even while he was watching his video on his iPod Touch, Darius would look up at the TV screen every now and then, unable to resist his curiosity over what was happening on screen. He would also voice out ‘FIFA’ whenever the word flashed across the screen during recaps in the matches. ^^

Sneaking a peek at the World Cup...

Fortunately, I’m not really a football fan so I do not watch the English Premier Leagues and as such, I only tune into the sport during Euro and World Cups. Therefore, Darius will not need to worry that my attention on him will be directed to the football games besides during these periods.

So throughout the weeks, has Darius somewhat got affected by what he saw from the football matches? Although he didn’t pick up a ball and start kicking around (come to think of it, he had not been doing that for quite a while already; kinda missed those times…) after watching the matches, he seemed to have been influenced by what many spectators were doing with their Vuvuzelas (especially from the short vids of supporting fans before the start of the matches).

"Is this how I do the Vuvuzela thingy? Voooooo...."

"...and I Huff, and I Puff and I Blowwwww~~~!"
