Last July, we had a simple but memorable birthday celebration for Darius at our home for his 1st birthday.
Fast forward to today, it’s now only less than a month before Darius’ 2nd birthday but Catherine and I have yet decided on a celebration plan for him! Though turning to 2 years old might not be as significant as his first year, we feel it’s still important to have a memorable celebration for him, especially when he has been such a good boy all year round~ ^^
We are considering possibilities like having a BBQ or booking a chalet for the celebration (or both) but knowing our parents’ food preferences and restriction, BBQ may not be a feasible idea after all. Furthermore, with our siblings busy with their young offsprings, there might be a lack of chefs to keep up with the barbecuing of the food. As for booking of a chalet, there are also considerations on cost, convenience (mainly for our family members since there isn’t nearby chalets that we know of) and suitability (overdoing it since our siblings held simple celebrations for their children?).
There’s also the consideration of sticking to the same plan as last year. That is, to celebrate it at the comfort of our home with a birthday cake, mini buffet, decorations and perhaps a slide show for guests’ entertainment. Catherine’s recent effort on the photobooks will come to good use too in keeping our adult guests occupied and updated on our activities with Darius. On the other hand, we might need to keep the fragile and precious books from the hands of the younger kids at the same time. ^^|
Alternatively, we can also plan for a simple celebration somewhere just between the three of us, like what we did on the actual day of Darius’ birthday last year (Part 1 and 2). Need ideas on where we can go and what we can do for this option though.
As a result, despite listing out all these possibilities, we are still very undecided on which plan to take up. With time ticking away, we have to start our preparations especially if we are to decide on one of the first few options.
So here I am, asking our dear readers for suggestions/ideas on what we can do for Darius’ 2nd Birthday celebration. Your inputs will be much appreciated! ^^

Thinking in terms of a child’s perspective, it doesn’t matter whether the celebration is held in a chalet or at home, as long as the daddy and mummy and his loved ones are together with him. Of course he’ll be happier opening up the presents too
The parents must enjoy the process to make it a joyous occasion.
Mrs Sze,
Indeed, at the end of the day, all three of us must be happy. Thanks for your insights! ^^
hi , the 1st year, we held at a bbq for alot of friends and relative but somehow its only the adult that is enjoying, my child do not enjoy at all, so for his 2nd year, we just had a celebration in the childcare, then another small celebration at home just the 3 of us and he is so happy that he keep smiling the whole night
think he enjoy celebrating in the school as he seems to know its his birthday and his classmate is singing birthday song for him
Hi Kate,
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
We did consider having a small celebration at his childcare but not sure if he would like that. Will think about it then~ ^^
We’re also planning to throw Layla a party this year and this is where we’re stealing ideas from:
