A’Famosa Trip: Day 1 – Water World

Posted Under (Darius' 22-24mths, Overseas Trip) on Thursday, 10 June 2010 at 9:00 am

(This is a backdated post for 6th June 2010)

We exchanged our entrance tickets into wrist bands and entered the Water World. Upon stepping in and preparing to take a photo of Catherine and Darius, a young friendly male staff came forward and offered to take our family photo. This was probably one of the few times we’ve come across good service during the entire trip though. ^^|

As it was a hot afternoon, we had to ensure our skin are well protected from the scorching sun rays by applying sunblock lotions.

The main resting area we were at was littered with food leftovers and cigarette butts and flies were circling around the tables and chairs, so it was less than desirable to stay at that area for long. Many people were also smoking around us, forcing us to take in their second-hand smoke. Really missed Singapore where people were certainly more civil minded in terms of smoking (of course the Law plays a large part too). :(

Meanwhile, Darius kept saying the number ’8′ since he entered the Water World. It didn’t take long for us to find out why he was doing so though: ^^

We then headed out to the children’s water playground a short walk away (map). As we were undecided on our plans (i.e. whether we should rent the floats/tubes or buy a float for Darius), I looked after our belongings while Catherine went into the pool with Darius.

Not unexpected, Darius started tearing as he got into the water, probably not used to his change in his environment since it had been a while since he stepped into a pool. Fortunately, he got better soon after and began to enjoy sliding down the various water slides with us.

At this point, we decided to buy a children’s float for Darius (our mushroom float was too bulky so we didn’t bring it along for this trip) so that we could bring him to the Lazy River and Wave Pool too.

I only managed to find a suitable float in a shop just outside the Water World entrance (it’s strange the shop in the Water World did not sell what we were looking for) that cost RM29.90. Following that, we placed our belongings into a locker and off we went into the Lazy River.

Darius was initially reluctant to stay put in the float but as usual, he got used to it after a while. We then started floating along with the slow current but soon felt bored over the activity. Unlike those Lazy Rivers in Singapore, there was no water curtain, water shooting out from the sides etc. It’s really just a long pool of water with a slow current. Lives up to its ‘Lazy’ Pool name but not exactly what we had expected. :p

The sandy 'beach' near the Wave Pool

And so, we moved on to the Wave Pool where a big crowd was happily floating in it. We tried to avoid the crowd by entering from the side, where a gradual slope into the pool was present. When we got in, the waves were active (they were activated every 30 minutes) so Darius got quite a shock, being made to float up and down due to the waves. Once again, we had to pacify him by singing etc before he calmed down.

There was an artificial beach with white sand near the ‘coast’ of the Wave Pool but as the weather was hot and the place was unshaded, we didn’t think it was appropriate to bring Darius there to play with the sand.

We then headed back to the playground area that we were at earlier. With Catherine and I in the pool together with him this time round, Darius was less reserved and enjoyed himself as he took the initiatives to climb up the stairs to reach the slides. Climbing of stairs has always been one of his favourite activities so I guess letting him do what he likes best had helped him getting used to his environment better.

I slid down several slides with him sitting on my lap and he sure enjoyed them. I couldn’t say the same for myself though, as my bum always ended up landing hard on the concrete ground below, due to the very shallow water which couldn’t sufficiently reduce the impact upon touchdown. On the other hand though, the other kids did not seem to have this problem so guess I was just plain ‘overweight’. ^^|

After some time, we left the playground to explore the other parts of the Water World and we were glad we had done that. After taking a short walk towards a higher ground, we spotted a castle-like structure where many children were happily playing at. We had initially thought the playground we were at earlier was the only children’s play area here in Water World but we were wrong. This castle playground in front of us appeared to be even more fun and suitable for Darius.

For a start, the slides had a soft, rubbery feel which made our slides down felt safer and comfortable. Also, the water was slightly deeper here so our bums wouldn’t end up hitting the concrete floor upon descend. There were two ‘castles’ in the area, one having two very low slides and the other, four slides (two uncovered, two covered). There was also an independent slide by the side but we skipped that due to its steepness.

For safety reasons, we only took the two uncovered slides at the castle with four slides and they were very enjoyable for us and Darius. We didn’t take the two higher, covered (tube-like) slides as the pool at the end of the slides was much deeper, which might pose a risk to Darius upon landing.

Having enough fun, we took a short stroll around the area before heading back to the lockers area. Catherine and I had quite a bit of fun (can’t say comfortable though) walking around bare-footed on the hot and rough concrete floor. ^^|

Back at the main entrance, we waited patiently for the Banana Truck to take us back to the resort. While waiting, we spotted a camel and pony for people to ride on, though I doubt anyone would be wanting to ride on the camel due to the unbearable smell it was emitting. The pony ride looked fun though but Darius was still too young to ride on it.

I don't really want to know what that puddle of water was...

Soon after we returned to our room, Darius fell asleep on the comfortable bed. He must had been really tired with all the fun he had. ^^

Completely knocked out~
