After 2 Days of Childcare…

…Catherine and I were already noticing some changes in the behaviour of Darius, in both good and bad ways.

Non-stop Babbling

After a period of being relatively quiet most of the times, Darius started babbling non-stop over the weekend, mostly talking to his books and the things around him, and even sometimes to himself. He seemed to be speaking meaningful stuff (i.e. things that probably only himself could understand) but unfortunately, we couldn’t make them out most of them although some sounded like words we know in both Mandarin and English.

We were both amused by his babbling, especially when they sounded pretty comical (reminded me of chipmunks). At the same time, we were also concerned if his behaviour was normal and what had triggered him to babble non-stop all of sudden.

Given his most recent and impactful change being his admission into his childcare centre, we could only attribute his change in speech to it. So was he positively influenced by the other kids there after hearing their voices, and was trying to imitate them? I certainly hope this would be the case.

Blocky Love

We had bought Darius some Mega-Bloks blocks many months back but all this while, he had not been showing much interest in them. This had suddenly changed over the weekend, when he proactively took the blocks out from its carrier (in the form of a bus) and started putting and separating them with much interests. He could just sit at one spot to play with the blocks for tens of minutes, which had not happened to him before this.

On the first day at the childcare, Darius got to play some similar blocks with several kids around him. He probably started getting interested in the blocks after observing and watching the other kids.

Sleep Behaviour

On Saturday, Darius actually ‘overslept’ in the morning, a rare occurrence for him since he usually wakes up earlier than the both of us (and ‘forcing’ one of us to wake up and accompany him). He was sleeping so soundly that we would feel bad if we had to wake him up then.

We were thinking that maybe subconsciously, he was dreading to go ‘school’ (he probably didn’t know he did not need to go on a weekend) so he went into a deep sleep to avoid going to the centre? I hope this wouldn’t be the case though, else it would mean he was really reluctant to go to his childcare centre. Perhaps he was just too tired after his crying ordeal on Friday?

On the other hand though, he had been waking up several times over these few nights too. Not sure if they were due to nightmares (due to his experiences in the centre?), wanting to go pee or feeling discomfort due to teething (he has been biting and salivating quite often these few days). As a result of this, both Catherine and I didn’t sleep well either. Hopefully this is just a passing phase.

————————————————————————————————————————

Today would be his third day at the Childcare Centre, with Catherine accompanying him. I’ll find out later on what are his responses to the place today.

Anyway, we were glad that we had started bringing him to the centre on a Thursday, since we were able to take a break over the weekend before he was to attend his third day on Monday. In this way, we could help minimise his ‘trauma’ by accompanying him over the whole weekend and making him happy before bringing him back to his (maybe) ‘dreaded school’ again. ^^|

Happy. Happy. Happy!
