I have just returned from the childcare centre after accompanying Catherine and Darius on his first day there. Right now, Catherine is accompanying him for his half-day session as we are allowed to be present with Darius for his first three days. As I will be the one staying with Darius at the centre tomorrow, it is beneficial for me to orientate myself to the place and staff there today.
We had planned to reach there as early as possible this morning so that Darius won’t feel too uneasy in his new environment since there weren’t many children present at that time yet.
Although I already had a good impression of the place when we first checked out the centre a fortnight ago, I am glad that my feelings were still consistent during my short stay there earlier.
We managed to have a good chat with two of the teachers to learn more on what we are to expect and the things we need to take note of. Both of them were very friendly and approachable. We also took the opportunity to bring up some characteristics of Darius, such as his preference for books, us speaking Mandarin to him at home while exposing him to English via books and lessons, and he being more familiar with people addressing him by his Hanyu Pinyin than christian name.
As for Darius, it’s difficult to tell how well he is getting used to his new environment and friends yet from my short stay, though we were relieved he had yet to show any uneasiness nor shyness. He was doing self-play and exploration most of the time however so I do not know how well he would be able to socialise with the other kids at the centre. Anyway, I’m glad to see that the other kids were all well-behaved and so they will become good influences for Darius.
Meanwhile, I am waiting for Catherine’s updates on his stay there today when they return home later in the afternoon.

Hope Darius will ease himself into the new environment smoothly! I guess it will take some getting used to for the whole family, since Darius has been under your sole care all this while. Kids are surprisingly adaptable though.
And Cat, all the best for your job hunt!
My experience with Montessori School is pleasant too, though only 8 months. They have a good teaching approach and they give lots of worksheets to do! But I’m not sure how much work is done my Yuheng himself :p But from Cath’s post, seems like the place is quite inaccessible, having to change 2 buses.
Mama Peanut,
Thank you! Ya, we are already feeling a little ‘guilty’ sending him to a CC and most probably we will miss him more when he converts into a full-day session. We are hoping Darius will prove to be very adaptable too. ^^
Mrs Sze,
Thanks for sharing.
Oh I didn’t know they have lots of worksheets! But since Darius is only 20-month old now, I think that even if there are worksheets, they should be coming in only after he has crossed the 2.5 years old mark where he will be then ‘upgraded’ to an older class.
Traveling to and fro could indeed be an issue, though today’s journey was a relatively smooth one, probably because it’s the school holidays now. We will only find out about the real traffic situation from next week onwards. ^^|

Due to privacy and safety concerns, we can’t disclose the name of the cc here. Sorry!
