Darius Getting us More Involved in Reading

Reading together is becoming the most common activity between Darius and me nowadays, especially after I return from a long, tiring day at work. We still do some hide-and-seek activities occasionally, just not as often as before (I’m getting old already? ^^|).

I do enjoy the bonding while reading to Darius and I can feel he loves the closeness with me during these times too. Whenever I am near the bookshelf, he will quickly rush towards it too and pick up a book, before inching towards my body (he loves to do the ‘reverse parking’ motion towards me) and sitting down close to me. Sometimes he’s so eager (probably fearing that I may walk away) that he simply sits down on my lap without first picking up a book from the bookshelf. ^^

I have read from some articles before that most toddlers enjoy the closeness during activities with their parents, be it reading or physical activities. So it’s no wonder Darius loves the times when we reading with him, especially when he has liking for books.

Just a few days ago, he started taking more initiative to get us involved even more during our reading times. At certain pages of some books, he would reach out to our hands and want us to point or feel the pages with him.

For example, in the ‘That’s Not My Train’ book which consists of pages with different texture, Darius will hold and pull my hand towards the pages, wanting me to touch and feel the textured surfaces together with him. Catherine and I are not sure why he is doing this all of a sudden but we are glad that he’s now getting more proactive in getting us more involved in the activities with him.
