We have been enjoying hearing Darius’ new-found word of ‘奶奶’ (milk) since we returned from our overseas trip (see Darius Snippets #7).
Without fail, we will smile subconsciously when he shouts out ‘奶奶’ or ‘喝奶奶’, usually when we announce to him it’s time for him to drink his milk, or when he wakes up early in the morning hungry. Before this, he will only whine when he wants us to prepare milk for him.
Before he mastered saying these words though, he would still follow me or Catherine excitedly to the kitchen whenever we headed there to prepare his milk. His eyes would be fixed on the tin of milk while we were scopping up the milk powder into his bottle, knees bending up and down excitedly.
Then when we were done with the scooping and were capping the bottle, Darius would quickly run off towards the sofa (where he usually drinks his milk on), turning his head to make sure we were heading towards the same direction with the bottle too. He would then bury his head on his small pillow on the sofa and turn his head at us with a subtle smile, waiting for the arrival of the milk.
We would then carry him up the sofa where he would stretch out his arms while lying down, wanting to down the sprout of the milk bottle into his mouth as soon as possible. ^^
We are so glad that he loves his milk so much, that we do not have to worry about him not drinking it. His strong love for the milk actually only started to show after we switched to Gain IQ after his one-year-old, so we attributed the biggest reason behind his love to the nice taste of the milk. The last time we took a taste of it, it tasted so much like the ice cream and milk shake from MacDonalds. Milky and smooth…
Here’s a video of Darius at the kitchen saying, “喝奶奶 (了)” while I was preparing the milk for him just a few nights ago. See for yourself how excited he was: ^^ He also said “喝奶!”as he ran off. Sounds like foreigner speaking Mandarin though.

Very cute indeed.
It’s lovely when they have little rituals like that.
“Foreigner speaking Mandarin” -> really made me laugh. Haha. The first time I played the video it sounded like Darius was speaking Japanese as the intonation sounded similar.
Hana has the exact same pillowcase in that picture! ^^ Anyway, she drinks Similac from Abbott too, and likes it a lot – much more than the Wyeth formula we’ve tried with her. I haven’t tried it myself, though.
Thanks Dan and Mama Peanut. Glad you liked the video.
