I didn’t follow any of the stated items in the curriculum for Lesson 8 Wk 1 this week. Couldn’t find the book to borrow. Lately, it’s been harder following the curriculum by LetterofTheWeek because he has been taking a longer time to eat (used to be ten mins now half an hour), resulting in lesser playtime. Also slept later and woke up later. The books for these few weeks are also not very appealing, hard to find or had read before. I will probably drop it but still refer back to some parts of it. Hence, the change for the title.

New: This was a nice and cheap game ($9.90)we bought from a toy store selling wooden toys in Takashimaya. I showed him how to hold the ‘rod’ over the magnetic fishes to fish them up. He hovered over them and picked them up easily. I’m surprised the magnetism was strong and once the rod is hovered quite near, it can attract the metal on the fish so kids do not get discouraged. When he tried two times on some occasions and couldn’t get it, he was ‘smart’ enough to use another hand to grab the fish instead. =.=” I had to tell him, “Cannot. Must use the rod!” He also removed the fishes after he caught them by himself and knew to attempt to catch the next one by hovering over it. I was quite pleased that he grasped the concept so fast and finished catching all the fishes. We played this for three times, placing back the fishes again and again, when he called it quits because he did not like me taking photos of him. Will play this again next week.

(things learnt: Using tools to take a thing, Fine motorskills, Magnetism)

New: Bought this Playskool Clipostarter set over the weekend. The ‘clips’ easily snapped onto each other but required more strength to push onto the board. He placed the orange clip on it and I helped him to press down by putting my hand over his but it still came out and laid just on top. Only when I pressed down more strongly did it clipped on. However, he easily put one red one on another red. I like this toy for its open-endedness. Many things could be learnt. He wasn’t that interested when we left it out for him though to play by himself. Only when I played with him and showed him, he started playing more.

(things learnt: Stacking different shapes and objects. Clipping two objects together)

Other activities we still do but not pictured: Sorting pom poms using the flower-shaped paint tray, Sorting the shape sorter, Putting the pom poms into the waterbottle, Stacking bowls, Beads movement.

The Foot Book By Dr Seuss
20091130_Thefootbook

Read Daily For Five Days.

I bought this book from Kinokuniya with several others. Using this as the book of the week. Darius loves this book the moment he saw it and will giggle to himself when a certain page is read. “Up Feet, Down Feet”. He saw some humor in it. He even turned the book upside down to look at the stairs going up and down. Interesting reaction. Will write a review next time.

- Bible Story
20090810_TheRhymeBibleStoryThe Farmer from ‘The Rhyme Bible Book for Toddler’.
An Excerpt:

A farmer scattered
Seeds one day.
The birds took some
And flew away.

…But some seeds fell
On ground that was good,
And the plants grew up
Just as they should.
God’s Word is like seeds
That grow good deeds!

He took hold of the rod which is used to put clothes onto the hanging pole at the ceiling to “Row Row Row His Boat”. He just sat there, twist and turn his body and swing it from one arc to another, poking underneath the cupboards too. His actions looks like kayaking.

He no longer climbs the playground stairs. Nowadays, he just step onto the first step and stay kneeled like this for a long time looking at things. Bored....

16mthsWk3-Outdoor2

He MUST step this everytime he sees it. And he walks very well on it.

16mthsWk3-Outdoor1

Brought him over to a further estate and he was running here and there in the hot sun, not listening. Ended up chasing a bird who keep going round and round in circles instead of flying off.

16mthsWk3-Outdoor4

Went to the Library on my own with him for the first time on Thursday afternoon. Disaster as he just kept running here and there between the shelves, laughing happily! I was pushing the stroller chasing him, so afraid he will be knocked down by older kids and that the librarians would scold us. Managed to read a few english books and chinese books in between when I sat him down. He was particularly interested in this display and thought he could take down the letters. ha.

Walking with Daddy. I like the focus on his action of walking. Notice the swing? Our Malay neighbours downstairs actually placed a huge swing at the space outside their flat...

His all-time favourite action since two months ago. This time captured with DSLR superb quality. The key to turn on this face is to be in front and walk backwards facing him.
