The fear of ‘f’

I was brushing my teeth this morning in our room’s bathroom while Darius was in the kitchen playing the LeapFrog Magnetic Word Builder.

Suddenly, I heard crying. Sounds like Darius, I thought but can’t be. The sounds of the Magnetic Word Builder were still ringing out and he was having a fun time pressing.

Still, I stopped brushing and listened when I heard Darius wailing clearly this time,

“Maa….waahhhhh!!! Maaaa….!!!”

I quickly dashed out of the bathroom thinking he might have hurt himself in the kitchen.

He was slightly near the toilet staring in front and wailing, with tears flowing all over his face. I looked at the fridge and saw the ‘culprit’.

The Letter ‘f’ was right in the centre and he had pressed on it. To confirm, I pressed on it and it set him wailing off again.

Hubby had told me before that he’s afraid of the letter f and kept it. But when I noticed that there was only abc, I remarked that Darius should have more choices of letter for him to put on and play it himself. So he absentmindedly took that letter and put it back on again. I noticed it but was lazy to take and keep away since most of the time, I interchanged the letters for him and I know not to put on that letter.

Darius must have placed the letter himself into the middle compartment once it was emptied, his favourite place to press. And triggered off the ’scary fffff….flying!!!”

Not sure what he’s so afraid of. Maybe the sound of the airplane flying across the buttons? F to Darius is now, ‘ffff…fear”.

Other things he suddenly has a great reaction to, when he didn’t in the past:

1) The Snow White Audio Story. Maybe the sound of the witch being angry scared him. There will be a thunder strike and the witch go ‘Arrrr!!!!” knowing that Snow White was still alive. I couldn’t pinpoint though because he always caught me by surprise when he started crying while drinking his milk.

2) The Old MacDonalds Song after we sang finished during mealtime. It was his favourite song but lately his mouth would all of a sudden turned down and tears started welling up in his eyes. We have since avoided that song.

3) These few days, he started crying a bit too after I finished saying the story of Mr Brown Can Moo. Now I think it’s because he can’t bear for me to ‘finish’ the story. He wants more…
