He has learnt to drag/take things out from their rightful places and was trying to take the big tub of Playdoh kit out of the blue room. Hence, I sat him down to work on the Playdoh instead. This is the second time we played with it. He loves only two tools, the knife and the red rod for kneading. He used the knife to slice to move along the playdoh, poking at it. I showed him how to ‘stamp’ the rod on the playdoh and he imitated me. He also took up the playdoh in his hand, squeezing, throwing, giving a ‘oh gross’ expression when he first touched it. He also tried to put it in his mouth twice which I stopped in time. I took out another colour, limegreen too to show him that they are different.

(things learnt: Texture, Experimenting with tools, Colours Blue & Green)

A New Activity for this week. First, I showed him the capping of the bottle and how we turn the cap.Second, I asked him to put the mini pom poms into the narrow mouth of the waterbottle. He managed to do it for most of them on first try. Some needed second try because he was blocking them with his fingers. This time, I let him hold the bottle himself, one hand to hold and one hand to place the object inside.  He then placed it on the chair too and continued putting the pom poms. After putting, he would look into the bottle to see the assortment of different coloured pom poms. Thirdly, I showed him how to turn over the bottle to shake them out and he immediately grasped it and hold the bottle upside down to shake bang on the floor several times with the pom poms flying everywhere. They didn’t came out easily so it was quite fun.

(things learnt: Putting items in small spaces, turning objects to get items out, opening and closing bottle caps)

As he is very much into experimenting this week, I took out the Gigo Junior Engineer Science Tool Kit to let him play with the bolts and screws again. This time, we pretty much left it there for his own exploration for the whole week and only at the start, I showed him how to place the screw into the holes of the blocks. He grasped the concept and experimented with putting a screw into a screw and putting a rod into the holes (which was too big). He also tried to put a screw into the pliers and succeeded. He even tried to put the screw into Daddy’s hand. At the end of the week, he played by himself, putting the screws into the blocks all the time easily.

(things learnt: Manipulating the fingers to place an object into another object. Only objects with holes of the same size can ensure a good fit.)

Other activity we still do but not pictured: Sorting pom poms using the flower-shaped paint tray, Sorting the shape sorter.

He has learnt to take things from the bookshelf by standing on his chair. Previously, he had only been standing on his chair to make the squeeky noises. I captured him taking the ‘Three Little Pigs’ storybook (I don’t allow him to read it by himself because the pages are made of thin paper), then walking a bit to sit down and flip the book on his own. So far, he  has been good with it and hasn’t torn it.

He loves looking at patterns or designs of structures. When he reach this, he would walk along the yellow snake-like strip, reaching the end and specially walk back (outside) to the tip of it to step on it to walk again.

16mthsWk2-Outdoor3

Carefully keeping his walk on the yellow portion

16mthsWk2-Outdoor2

His sandals is getting too small for his toes so this was the last day he wore them while we go get him a size 15.

16mthsWk2-Outdoor4

He turned the wheel, studied it for a moment. Stood up, walked to get a twig and came back to place it on the wheel to spin it around. Otherwise, he poked at the wheel with it, put it down at a different position, spun it and took it up again. He did this on the second day too when we went to this area.

16mthsWk2-Outdoor6

Stopping his walk specially to observe& touch the patterned crevice...

16mthsWk2-Outdoor5

He attempted to walk up and down the stone steps by himself. Just one week ago, he still wanted our help due to having no confidence.

16mthsWk2-Outdoor7

Running freely along a long pathway, his favourite activity.

16mthsWk2-Outdoortantrum

Throwing tantrums when he did not get to go where he wanted to.
