Phew! We have finally confirmed on the booking the air tickets and resort for our Trip #2 (if we only count our trips after Darius was born).
I have been comparing the prices and timings of various airlines over the past few days before we made a decision on which flights to take. I’ve even checked with a few travel agencies on their Free & Easy packages. In the end, we still feel it’s better to book and arrange for the trip ourselves because of flexibility and costs.
We will be taking a flight with the budget airlines Air Asia from Changi Airport to Langkawi Airport, but returning on a Malaysia Airlines flight. It took me a while to decide on this arrangement where we will be taking flights from two different airlines.
The reasons being Air Asia’s timing for its return flight will be too early while Malaysia Airlines’ flights will make a stopover at Penang and thus lengthening the traveling time. So to balance off, the above arrangement best suits our overall expectations. Prices for both airlines are comparable though, despite Air Asia being a budget airline while Malaysia Airlines is not.
As for the resort, we have booked a room at Berjaya Langkawi Resort after being impressed by its nature setting and serenity, with monkeys and wild life knocking on our doors. We were tempted by the more pricey villas which are built above the beach/water but in the end decided on one on land instead.
We are glad to be making arrangements early as the resort is offering discounts for early birds (for travelers booking at least 30 days in advance) so we got a pretty good deal. ^^
With our recent Genting Trip (see Gearing Up to Go!) as the warm-up, we now have a better idea of what we are to expect when bringing Darius along for overseas trips. However, since this will be his first time being on a flight, this trip may still turn out to be an unpredictable, challenging one!
We’re looking forward to December and hopefully, this trip will allow Catherine to get a well-deserved break from her daily routine in taking care of Darius. ^^

Wow, sounds good! I stayed at Berjaya Langkawi some years back & it was great. If you have the time, try to rent a car for a day & just drive around the island. There are lots of lesser-known nature sites to explore. Do visit the museums & Underwater World too – I loved them!
Thanks for sharing Mama Peanut! ^^
About renting a car, should we rent from the airport upon arrival or only get it when we are at the resort?
We are planning to just spend most of our time in the resort on the first day and only drive out on the second day, so it seems the latter choice is more favourable. However, I’ve read that the rates at the airport could be cheaper, and we can also save on the cab fare to the resort on arrival.
I rented a car at the resort, because at that time we had actually driven up the mainland & taken a ferry to the island instead of flying directly. In your case, it might be better to rent from the airport. Besides saving on the cab fare, it’s useful to have a car on hand if you need to travel out of the resort to get supplies, food, etc. at any time of the day or night. After all, public transport is non-existent there.
I see… Thanks for the insight!
Will check out the rates soon! ^^
You’re welcome!
Enjoy your forthcoming trip!!
Langkawi is also the first plane trip we went with Yuheng. It’s so easy to drive there that you’d not get lost. A few places that’s worth going .. Galeria Perdana Museum, Oriental Village, Cable car ride to Gunung Mat Cincang …
Thanks for the recommendations! We will try to visit those places too! ^^
Now we just hope it won’t rain on the days we are there…
