There’s one obstacle we encounter everyday when we walked over to the playground. It’s a slightly raised platform with height around Darius’ ankles. Everytime, we had to either help him by holding one of his hand to pull him over it or he’ll automatically walk to the wall at the sides to use it to balance himself to step up.
Recently, he no longer held on firmly, just put a hand to it lightly and stepped up. Therefore, we feel it’s time for him to learn to step on his own.
He started with stepping sideways but as of yesterday, he could step up in a forward manner. He used his hands to balance himself so he held it high by the sides of him.

About his hands, we could never get him to put it down. Any restraint on him and he’ll cry and get red in the face with anger. Hence, we just leave it as such. It has been his habit since he was in the exersaucer at 5-6mths old. Recently, he finally put one of his hands (I think the right) down when he walked slowly. I say slowly because he usually still brisk-walk and half-run so he swings them up when he needs to move fast to keep his balance.

I let him tried it on the stairs too and he could do it also though he still lacks confidence and tends to keep moving towards the sides to hold onto the walls. So this will be an exercise we will be working on more now.

too cute too cute….
I learned that raising up the hands in that way helps the toddler to ‘step-up’…
somehow they feel that when their hands are raised, so will their feet…
it is also a sign of nervousness…
*giggle*
so just let it be… soon, he’ll put it down themselves, ‘cos its TIRING AH!!!!
*laugh*
thanks for the info, Angeline.
Yar…I’m waiting for the day when he can walk properly without raising his hands. Hee.. he doesn’t seemed to find it tiring.
People tend to laugh at him saying he is ‘surrendering’. Our own relatives find it amusing that he still walks this way even though he has been walking for 3 months.
…people just look at him oddly.
the way he walk is so cute
thanks Charismama!
