One of Darius’ favourite activities is walking, which means going outdoors has become a must in our daily routine. Otherwise, he will become grumpy and lethargic for the rest of the day.
Whenever Catherine or I walk to the shoe rack to pick up our shoes, Darius will come running at us, knowing it’s a sign that we are going out. He will then turn his body around and rest his back on us, waiting for us to put his shoes on. ^^
There are occasions that I had to leave without him, such as when clearing garbage at the rubbish chute. Upon closing the metal gate with him still in the house, Darius will whine loudly and sadly, like I’ve just abandoned him. It’s certainly not a good feeling for me but guess it’s just part and parcel to let him learn about temporary separation.
So when we are bringing him out with us, he will promptly step out of the house as soon as the metal gate opens up. However, he will often obediently stand beside us, waiting for us to close the gate and lock the door.
When we reach the lift lobby, he will wait for one of the lift doors to open, before quickly walking into it. I’ve noticed that in one of these lifts, there is this black line mark on one of its walls and Darius will always make it a point to check it out by touching it without fail. ^^|
While inside the lift, he will walk towards the closed doors, stamps his feet and prepares to charge out of the lift at the first moment. Once the lift door opens up, he used to walk quickly out of the lift, heading to where he wants to go next. However just recently, he has grown an interest on the sides of the opened lift doors and we have to nudge him softly to move on so that he doesn’t get crushed by the closing doors.
