This is what we have done for 14 months – Lesson 3 Wk 1
Date: 14Sep – 20Sep 09

  • Literature - English : Backyard Bedtime by Susan Hill
  • Bible – “The Promise (Sarah & Abraham)” from ‘The Rhyme Bible Book for Toddler’.
  • Nursery Rhyme- “Higgledy Piggledy, My Black Hen
  • Mother Tongue -Story ‘我长大以后’ (dolphin media books)
  • Children’s Song-The Alphabet Song / A is for Alligator
  • Art Appreciation – Artwork of Jimmy Liao in When The Moon Forgot
  • Other Learning - Audiobooks of Fairytales, Other Storybooks read randomly during mealtimes or before bedtime.

We missed two learning days for this week due to the Genting Highlands Trip. He needs about two days to warm up to a storybook. Thus, he only concentrated on hearing me read-aloud on Thursday. I couldn’t find the recommended storybook at first and had to ask the librarian who searched for me at the baby books section. Until then did I realised that the code [BA] in the library books coding stands for babybooks section. I was actively searching in the JP preschool section!
And one good deed begets another. I was arranging the messy bookshelf of chinese books when the book which I was looking for, “Guess How Much I love you” by Sam McBratney, appeared in the pile!

More Details Below:

Book Read for the Week:Backyard Bedtime‘ by Susan Hill

Word I picked out from the story and learnt for this Week (my own initiative): No significant word. I did try to ask him to say, “Bed” since bedtime was repeated throughout but he doesn’t get it.

Higgledy, Piggledy, my black hen,

Children’s Song-The Alphabet Song / A is for Alligator
There’s a huge collection of children’s songs in our own National Public Digital Library. Just go to pl.sg, Browse For Children’s , Choose ‘Overdrive : digital media collection‘, search for children’s songs and you can borrow them and even download to burn into cds. I burned three cds ( ABC’s & 123′s /Tender Lullabies / 102 Travelling Songs) by the Twin Sisters, with popular songs and old songs that is seldom heard nowadays. Nice!
Here’s a sample: “A is For Alligator”

Art Appreciation

20090917_ArtWhentheMoonForgTitle: When The Moon Forgot
Illustrator: Jimmy Liao

Finally a book where Darius does not mind just looking at the illustrations because they are just too good! I love Jimmy’s works and this book was an accidental find in the library. His ‘Turn Left, turn right’ was made into a movie and since then Idiscovered this illustrator and author of picture books.
