(continued from here)
We started off our second day with a breakfast at MacDonald’s.
Decided to let Darius eat something suitable from there instead of preparing it ourselves, we bought a Hotcakes Happy Meal for him amd the usual Hotcakes meals for ourselves. Unlike in Singapore, their set meals only come with two pieces of hotcakes instead of three (by the way, price still remains roughly the same).
We fed Darius small pieces of hotcakes (without the syrup and butter) while we had our breakfast. He did fuss at times, wanting to get down the high chair so that he could walk around the area. Despite that, we managed to make him sit through hiswhole meal.
After the breakfast, we returned to our room to prepare the things for our plans today. Meanwhile, we switched on the TV in the room and Darius immediately had his eyes glued to it:
When we were ready, we headed out for our expedition for today — the Outdoor Theme Park!
We purchased the day passes (as usual, Darius gets in for free!) and entered the theme park. We then started off our day with the Antique Car ride. The sounds from the motors were rather deafening but fortunately it got better after we drove out of the sheltered starting point. The unique part about this ride was the ability to control the speed by stepping onto the gas pedal, though it’s unlikely anyone could choose to drive slow as there were always some impatient riders behind. -_-|
After the ride, we walked towards the central part of the park, passing by a London Bus model along the way and decided to take a picture with it. ^^
The next ride we took was the Flying Jumbo, where each ride was in the shape of a flying elephant (aka Jumbo the Elephant). As each ride could only accommodate two passengers, I took the one alone while Catherine and Darius boarded another behind mine.
As the ride started going in circles, we were expecting our Jumbos to move up and down but it didn’t happen. Just when we were wondering why some of the rides did move vertically now and then whilst ours didn’t, Catherine noticed a button on her ride and pressed on it. Viola! Her Jumbo immediately flew upwards swiftly! Following her, I also started pressing and holding the button to trigger the upward motion.
Well, I did notice the button when I got on the ride but as it was red in colour, I thought it was an emergency stop button or something so I didn’t dare to press it… -_-|
Anyway, just when we just got the hang of the levitation capabilities, the ride came to a stop shortly after that — the time for the ride had ended. I told Catherine we would go for another round on the Flying Jumbo again after we tried out a few other rides.
We then headed to the Astro Fighter ride, which moved similarly to the Flying Jumbo, except that the ‘spaceship’ was more opened and exposed. This time round, I was the one sharing the ride with Darius while Catherine took one in front of us.
As the ride began and we started going in circles again, Darius didn’t show much of an expression, except closing his eyes at times due to the wind blowing at him. He was like this too when he was in the Flying Jumbo. Well… We couldn’t decide if he was too stunned or was just being nonchalant.
There was a button on each of our rides too but nothing happened when I pressed on it (it worked for Catherine’s). Looks like it was just not my day… -_-|
We then strolled towards the lake, wanting to attempt the leisure Boating ride. However, there was no safety barrier on the boats and Darius could easily fall off the boat while we were on it. We therefore decided against riding it.
Moving on, we checked out the Double Deck Carousel. As its name implies, it’s a merry-go-round with two decks/levels, where horses are situated on the lower deck and seats on the upper. We decided to skip this ride however as there was no music (would be boring sitting in it without music) and we had already tried the carousel at the Indoor Theme Park the day before.
We then spotted this thrill ride called the Spinner, where riders were individually seated on free-hanging seats (like on swings) and were spun in circles at a high speed. It sure looked exciting but we weren’t really interested to give it a try (and of course not with Darius on it).
Just next to the Spinner was a beautiful building named the Beryl’s Chocolate Wonderland. The moment we stepped inside, we were pleasantly welcomed by its magical, fairy-tale setup consisting of artificial flowers, trees, tea cups, books etc. We let Darius loose in the building and he walked excitedly in it while checking out the colourful displays.
After some photo taking, we left the building and came across a booth offering to take photos with their snakes and/or iguana at RM15. Catherine has a phobia towards snakes so having those reptiles over us was definitely out. However, she was interested in having our photos taken with the cute-looking iguana who was wearing a pink shirt. ^^
And so we approached them (the staff, not the reptiles) and told them of our preferred ‘companion’. They were a little surprised we refused their ‘kind offer’ of having the snakes with us while placing the slightly restless iguana on my arms. Its skin felt rougher than I had thought and it did feel a little uncomfortable when its claws scratched against my skin. Still, with some adjustments, I managed to keep it still while we had our photos taken.
After collecting our photo, we noticed Darius was feeling tired already. We decided to head back to our room to take a rest
On the way out, we walked by a children’s playground within the theme park and decided to take a look. While in it, we placed Darius down on the ground and he got all awake and energetic again, walking around quickly and eager to explore the place. Looks like he’s happier walking around by himself than taking the rides. ^^|
Catherine also had a chance to play the swing while carrying him. It is getting increasingly difficult to find swings in Singapore.
When we reached our room, both Darius and I were so tired that we felt asleep soon after, while Catherine stayed awake to prepare his porridge.
After we woke up, we returned to the Outdoor Theme Park again, this time bringing the stroller along so we won’t have to carry him around when he’s tired. Also, he would be able to have his milk while lying down in it.
We saw a sign pointing towards the Mini Train ride near the theme park’s entrance but unfortunately, in order to reach its starting point, we needed to climb up and down several flight of stairs, which would be troublesome with our stroller. We skipped the ride.
As we walked on and passed by the Pirate Train ride, a mischievous thought came to me. Having taken this ride before during my previous Genting trip, I knew the ride was quite a dark and thrilling one and I wondered how our ‘Mr Cool Guy’ Darius would react being in one. ^^|
And so with Catherine looking after the stroller and our belongings, Darius joined me on our adventure!
As our ride headed into the darkness, noises sounded regularly around us together with eerie lightings. At many points, sharp U-turns were made and I had to hold on to Darius tightly so that he won’t get thrown off. Nevertheless, it was a short ride and we returned into the light in no time.
So what was Darius’ reaction throughout the entire ride? Well, simply put… he’s still nonchalant! Throughout the ride, he just looked around and observed his surroundings, indifferent to all the ‘scary’ stuff. He’s either growing up to be a very brave man or a cool guy, I guess. -_-|
We then passed by a pond full of Koi and sat down to admire the fishes and scenery. A huge man-made waterfall behind the lake makes a nice backdrop.
From here, seeing that the Flying Jumbo ride was just nearby, we decided to take it again, wanting to fully experience the levitation button this time. Unfortunately, the ride was out of order as one of the Jumbos became jammed (told you it’s not my day…). As for the operator, he was just standing by the controls expressionless, either waiting for the repair staff to arrive or for some miracle to fix the ride automatically. He didn’t even bother to put up an ‘Out of Order’ sign.
Moving on, we decided to move up to higher grounds where other rides were at. We soon reached a nice vintage point and decided to capture some family photos, using a rubbish bin as the tripod (how could I have forgotten to bring our tripod along for the trip? -_-).
We then passed by some game stalls with huge soft toys hanging by their storefront. Couldn’t help but took a photo using them as backdrops.
We then went up the Matahari, a Ferris Wheel ride. It felt much higher than the one we had taken in the Indoor Theme Park, probably due to the high grounds and open space that we were on that gave us this feeling. While we were starting to feel a little uneasy over the height we were at, Darius didn’t seem to be bothered by it at all.
After we alighted from the ride, we enjoyed some ice cream and took a short break, before embarking onto our next ride – the Monorail.
When we saw the sign by the ride, it wrote ‘No strollers allowed’. However, when I courteously checked with the lady manning the ride, she was kind enough to let us carry our stroller on board as long as we folded it nicely first.
As for the journey on the monorail, it was quite uneventful (what can we expect from a monorail ride? ^^) and we soon returned back at the station after one round trip.
At this point, Darius was once again feeling tired. We placed him into the stroller and decided to call it a day with the rides. We had wanted to check out the Dinosaurland but it appeared that we had to call that off.
So we returned to the First Hotel Plaza and did some shopping until it was time for dinner. We met up with my parents-in-law, as Catherine’s mother had wanted to give us a treat after she made a small windfall at the casino on the first day. It was quite an enjoyable meal, especially after seeing how much fun Darius had with his maternal grandparents.
Following that, we walked beyond the First World Plaza, touring the lobbies of the other Genting hotels. Darius had a merry time walking along the long tunnel leading to the Theme Park Hotel.
With that, we returned back to our room for a good rest.
