Phew! We have just returned from our 3D2N stay at Genting Highlands in Malaysia earlier this evening!
Being Darius’ first overseas trip (as always, Sentosa doesn’t count), this trip was a completely different experience from the others Catherine and I have been to. Bringing a toddler along to a trip sure makes proper planning a vital task so as to avoid inconvenience and last-minute hiccups.
Well, I do have quite a lot to write about our trip (blame it on my long-windedness!) so I have decided to split our experience into several posts, starting from this post.
Also, for this first post, I felt it’s easier for me to write in a time-stamp format. Hope it will be easier for our readers too! ^^
—————————————————————————————————————————–
0330hr: We woke up from our slumber, quickly dressing up and preparing to set off. Catherine transferred the cooked porridge for Darius into a thermo flask to be brought along for the trip.
0400hr: We gently moved the half-awake and confused Darius from his cot into the stroller and left home to wait for our transport at the void deck. With our amount of baggage at that wee hours, I won’t be surprised if a passer-by would think our family of three was running away from loansharks. ^^|
0415hr: My parents-in-law arrived, who were bringing us along for the trip with their car. They were surprised by the amount of stuff we were bringing and we almost couldn’t fit our stroller into the boot. Phew!
0420hr: Alright, all set and off we go! Weeeeee!
0435hr: Reached the checkpoint pretty fast since we stay quite nearby. As expected, the place was quiet with no traffic jam. Passed through without much hassle.
0445hr to 0635hr: On the road, we dozed off most of the time. Catherine and I took turns to carry Darius in our arms. I had borrowed a baby car seat a day before but realised it was too big to fit into the car, so we decided to travel without one.
0640hr: Stopover at a petrol station somewhere in Malaysia. Time to ease our bladders! ^^|
0750hr: Passed by a site which had just undergone a fire. Looked like a vehicle spare parts company.
0810hr: Stopped by an indian coffee shop in Kuala Lumpur, a favourite eating spot for my father-in-law. We ordered some roti prata and man, they sure were huge! Can’t say it’s as delicious as those I ate in Singapore though…
0900hr: Started the ascend up Genting Highlands. Mist was thick even near the bottom of the hill, and we already could feel the cold stinging breeze blowing into the car through the ventilator. Can’t imagine how cold it woould be up on the summit!
0910hr: Mist getting thicker up every metre we travelled. Current visibility: 50 metres.
0911hr: Halfway there. Current visibility: 0 metre!? This was the time when we really appreciated my father-in-law’s experience and competency in driving under such conditions!
0930hr: Finally reached the summit with Catheine and I both giddy and nauseous. We found a parking spot at the First World Hotel car park. Left most of our luggage in the car since we won’t be able to check-in into our rooms yet. Brrrr… It… sure… was… cold… up… there…
0935hr: Took a queue number for the check-in. We were number 0339 and queue numbers will only be called from 11am onwards. We were told visitors had arrived as early as 6am that day to get their queue numbers! o_0|

wahh visibility looks really bad.. and kudos to your bravery to decide to drive up! we’ll never dare to drive into malaysia.
The visibility was indeed bad. What’s worse, we actually saw a lady crossing the road in that condition, and a motorcyclist driving in the opposite direction! o_0|
wow you could drive in that bad condition, that’s scary.
Haha I wouldn’t dare to do it if I was the driver; it was my father-in-law who was the courageous one. ^^
