Nursery Rhyme : Little Jack Horner
Little Jack Horner sat in the corner
Eating his Christmas pie,
He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum
And said “What a good boy am I!”

Indoor Game - What Do You See? (Mirror Game)
- Carry Darius in front of a mirror and look into the mirror together. Point out to him all the different things we can see. Point to body parts, eyes, ears, hair, nose etc..and then clothing and other objects that can be seen through the mirror.
Darius loves looking into the mirror even when he was just a few months old. And he likes to walk to the mirror at the door to check out his reflection or kiss himself in the mirror. This game just makes it more ‘structured’ as I point out to him his features and his clothing. He kept laughing as I wave his hands. Also taught him to wave ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ but he just laughed and twist here and there, not really concentrating. When can he really start to use his hands to communicate? >.<

Exercise
-I’m still trying to teach him to walk down the stairs by himself using the sides as the support. But he will often step out and slip down to the next step instead of properly putting his foot down. He also tend to put out the wrong foot to step down so his legs criss-crossed. Now he still prefers to hold onto one of my hand with his other hand on the sides of the wall or railing to walk down in a frontal manner instead of sideways.

Art Appreciation
Trying to view the realistic artwork in Jan Brett’s Honey Honey Lion but Darius is simply not interested. He only started at the pictures of the animals for a while before trying to get up from my lap. Well, maybe he just does not like Jan Brett’s art. Nevertheless I have another book, The Hat. Let’s see whether he likes it next week.

This is the best tot school site on the web. You are so inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to post so many details! I’m trying to teach my little 16 month old boy Mandarin but am having trouble finding books & materials. Would you mind sharing where you are purchasing your Chinese books I see under Mother Tongue?
Thanks so much,
Cassandra in Texas
wow Cassandra, I’m flattered. I think there’s really many other sites out there that is top notch.. like the 1+1+1 equals 1 site. (see my side bar) This blog is just a little record of very simple things we are doing. I wish we could do more but he doesn’t always co-operate. You reminded me that I hadn’t updated my Rainbow Theme Tot School yet! Nor the books we read for the School Theme, to prepare him for school… oops. Need time, time, time.
For the Mother Tongue, a good source to get in Singapore is from the Maha Yuyi BookStore in Bras Basah. I bought the set of Dolphin Media Books (火车要开了) from there. They are really good! Their online store doesn’t list it though…
You can also try out this online store recommended by someone who thinks it’s the best resource for chinese books,(I hadn’t bought from it before though) – DangDang
For the rest, I usually buy them from Popular BookStore, a local store here in Singapore.
I also bought a set of books from this publisher in Malaysia, Odonata – 100 First Words
