Darius’ Pet Doggie

Darius’s newest pet barks (though in a weird way), walks on four legs and with her fur dropping off like a real dog, except that she isn’t one.

A few days back, I passed by a bazaar at Causeway Point and spotted some mechanised dogs on display. Catherine had been wanting to get Darius one since she thought he would enjoy the company and have fun chasing after it. Even though I had decided to buy one for him, I had to choose from a few difference ‘species’ of dogs, which differs from each other in their physical appearances and abilities.

Mainly there were two types of abilities that the toy dogs can perform: either walking forward and backward repeatedly or standing on its hind legs after kicking their feet on the spot. The latter type does look interesting, but unfortunately its mobility is limited and there is a tendancy for them to fall off to the side when they are doing the hind leg standing stint. So in the end, I chose the walking type ones instead.

I was planning to get the white flurry dog with a belt on its neck but as it belonged to the first type, I settled for the one with a ribbon round its neck instead. This is supposed to be a female dog but guess Darius wouldn’t mind having a female companion. ^^

After reaching home with the dog, I switched it on and placed the moving and barking dog on the floor. Darius watched from afar, maintaining a distance from her while observing it with much curiosity.

It was after a while before he finally moved towards her cautiously, quick to turn around in case she ’bites’. After a while, Darius started smiling and laughing, probably as a sign of relief that he acknowledged that she was ‘safe’ to play with.

Soon after, he started to extend his arms to touch her fur. However, this was also the time when we noticed her fur would drop, after nothing some fur getting caught onto Darius’ palms. I quickly combed the stranded fur from the dog before letting Darius touch it again, since those fur could be choking hazard for him.

Anyway, after Darius had got more familiar with the dog, he started holding her up with his arms, though not exactly in a gentle way… Well, he simply grabbed her legs and turned her over, examining her ‘under side’, which in this case, is the battery compartment.

On the other hand, there were times when he was more gentle too, where he would just grab her ears while looking at how her mouth moved:

By noww, Darius has gotten less wary of her and would crawl or walk towards her while she barks and moves around. Since we won’t be getting a real pet dog for him yet, this will have to do for now. ^^|
