Today, we made a last-minute decision to visit Downtown East at Pasir Ris. We have been wanting to travel there but had been hesitant till now.
Arriving there, our first destination was Wild Wild Wet, a water theme park for kids and adults. We were a little disappointed when we learnt that their promotional bundled deal had just ended yesterday, but were delighted when we learnt that in celebration of their 5th Anniversary (not sure what anniversary though), they were offering promotional entry fees (e.g. For adults, it’s now S$10.50 instead of S$15+). ^^
Before we got our tickets, I was concerned on what to do with our stroller (no, it wouldn’t fit even into their biggest locker) and was told by the staff that we could deposit it at the Guests Relation office. We were pleased wwith the helpful lady there who assisted with the task.
With that, we changed into our swim wear and deposited all our belongings into the biggest locker ($3).
We then proceeded to the large water play area especially for kids. It’s a large area in a playground setting, equipped with several slides and water splashing around. The water was kind of cold initially, and that had probably made Darius unhappy when we brought him down. He continued to whine despite our hugs and encouragement. Catherine suspected he was hungry (slightly past his lunchtime but we wanted him to come here first before his lunch) so we had no choice but to return to the cafeteria area to feed him (there goes the $3…).
He was showing signs of sleepiness while he was eating, so we were considering whether to just let him bath and sleep in the stroller, probably returning later in the evening. Fortunately we didn’t take that option though, as we decided to try bringing him back to the play area again to see how he’s responding this time round, after he had been fed. Unlike what we did earlier, we carried our belongings along with us, with Catherine watching over them while I brought Darius into the pool.
This time, I was careful to slowly dip him into the water inch by inch while he sat on my lap, so that he could gradually get used to the temperature of the water. Seeing that he was getting pretty comfortable (but not smiling still), I walked him into the relatively shallow pool and accompanied him down several fun slides. Seeing that he was responding pretty well, we decided to store our belongings in the locker again so that we could all have fun together.
After I returned from the locker area, Catherine and Darius were already at a small area beside the pool, where there were some small slides meant specifically for younger kids. The water there was also even shallower (below Darius’ knees) so Darius could walk around the pool comfortably by himself. There was this ‘gate’ where water was splashing down, and we were quite surprised that Darius didn’t mind walking through it. Catherine and I stationed ourselves on each side of the gate so that Darius could play the walking game with us (see Our Walking Game with Darius) while he passed through the gate each time. We were glad to see he was finally smiling and enjoying himself as he walked to and fro between us. ^^
We then proceeded on to the Lazy River, making sure to put on a life vest for Darius first. Catherine and I got onto a float each, with me carrying Darius in my arms while. The sun was starting to beam down onto us so it was getting a little glaring for Darius. As we floated past the ’wave section’ where strong tidal waves were simulated, I held onto Darius tightly to make sure he wouldn’t fall into the pool, which might be quite a terrifying experience for him.
After a short ride in the river, Darius fell asleep in my arms while we were still on the float! He must have been too tired from all these activities. Furthermore, the rocking motion caused by the floating on the river must have been a good sleep inducer. ^^|
Leaving the Lazy River, we proceeded back to the lockers to retrieve our belongings so that we could wash up. Catherine brought Darius (who had been awoken up) to the changing room to bath him and after they returned, I proceeded for mine.
Meanwhile, Darius had returned to his sleep in his stroller. He had an active afternoon so we were glad he finally managed to get his much needed rest, while Catherine and I had our lunch.
There was a train ride and merry-go-round in the lobby area and we were considering whether to bring Darius for the rides when he woke up. It’s S$3 per ride and for the merry-go-round, one adult can accompany the child for free. However, we decided against taking the rides, since we felt that Darius would not be able to appreciate/enjoy them (judging from his recent ride experiences). ^^|
We then decided to head over to the Pasir Ris Park instead. There is an exit to the park just beside the Escape theme park, so we got to the park without needing to travel much. Darius had already awoken up then so he had a fun time walking around and enjoying nature.
There were many tents and BBQ pits set up by other visitors by the beach, so the place was full of activities. We even saw a group consisting of over 30 people which identified themselves as the ‘Mayflower Secondary School Alumni’. They were probably in their late 30s/early 40s so it was quite impressive that they were still keeping in touch.
While Darius walked, we had to watch out for bicycles passing by on the foot path. Cyclists do have their own designated path so it’s disheartening to see a number of them disregarding the safety of others by cycling on the foot path.
With the skies turning dark, we headed back to Downtown East and decided to take the Ferris Wheel ride together, at S$6.50 per passenger. Noticing that children below the height of 75cm would be admitted free, we checked with the staff if Darius could be eligible for the free entry (though we know he already exceeded that height). Fortunately they were lenient and allowed to let him board for free. ^^
It was a short, 2-round ride but we did enjoy quite a bit.
With that, we ended our long, tiring but fun day at Downtown East. Upon reaching home, Darius promptly dozed off after his bath and milk feed. This goes to show how tired he was.
Catherine and I were both exhausted too, but we were glad to have made the trip since we had much fun there. ^^
