We have recently changed from Enfapro A+ (Stage 2) to Similac’s Gain IQ (Stage 3), after Darius turned 1 year old (see Formula milk for Stage 3).
So far, Darius seems to like this new milk better than his previous, since he has been taking much lesser time to finish the same amount. On the other hand, this might be due to the new milk not being as thick as the previous one. My assumption is that since toddlers at this age are getting their nutrition primarily from their solid food, Stage 3′s formula milk in general is no longer as ‘nutritious’ as their predecessors (thus the cheaper prices).
This could be a concern for Darius’ dream feed (i.e. last milk feed before his night sleep) as this same amount of milk might no longer be as filling as before. This would cause him to wake up earlier due to hunger and indeed, this has started to happen over the past two days. He used to only wake up after 7am for his milk feed but now he’s been waking up as early as 6am instead.
We will thus try giving him more milk for his dream feed tonight and see how it goes, although this will mean: more water intake = more urine = more likely to wake us up to pee in the nights. ^^|
With his first 900g tin of Gain IQ finishing, I have recently bought another new 1.8kg tin. I have decided to get the larger tin since it’s cheaper (around S$38 for 900g tin and around $53 for 1.8kg tin). However, each tin must be consumed within 3 weeks upon opening to keep its freshness and I’m not sure if Darius would be able to finish it by then.
To counter this, I’m thinking of transferring half the tin (i.e. 900g of milk powder) into our empty 900g tin while keeping the remaining milk powder in the original 1.8kg tin well sealed. We will then just use the milk powder from the 900g tin, thus keeping those unused powder in the 1.8kg untouched and fresh for a longer period of time. ^^
