Yesterday, while hubby was doing his usual routine of brushing the gums for Darius before his sleep, Darius pursed his lips together and made the sounds of “mum mum mum”.
He has been calling me, “mum mum” for sometime. Occasionally, he goes “Ma!”.
I took the opportunity then to say, “mum mum mum” and waited for him to respond. He responded with a “mum mum mum” too, moving his mouth in a cute way.
I tried it for a few times before I decided to say, “Ba ba ba ba”. He doesn’t yet know how to say the ‘b’ sound. So I was surprised when he suddenly looked at me intently and said, “Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba”.
I tried another time, and he said it again. We were both so happy and excited. Hubby quickly tried to get him to say, “Ba-ba” again but all he did was to babble the “mum mum” again.
Then, he managed to do it just one more time when I told hubby to say, “ba-ba-ba-ba” consecutively instead of just “ba-ba”. Then, it’s back to self-babbling again with his “mum-ma” and “da-da” and time for bed.
I wonder if he’s finally starting to imitate our speech now?
