When Darius first displayed symptoms of teething, he was only 18 weeks old (see Darius Teething at 18 Weeks). Thereafter, he also went through several episodes of similar teething phases. Yet after so many months later, he’s still one toothless boy. ^^|
Catherine and I were a little worried a few months back when he was still ‘bo gey‘ (dialect for toothless) as the average age for getting the first baby tooth is 6 months. On the other hand though, we are also well aware that every child is different and some infants don’t get their first tooth until they are 14 or 15 months old. In fact, our GP advised us to bring Darius to him on this issue only if he still doesn’t have any tooth after 18 months old.
Therefore, Darius’ teething is no longer much of a concern to us, as we know his first tooth will emerge when the time is right. Still, it upsetted us a little during a recent episode, when someone we hardly knew exclaimed in a disbelieving tone after overhearing that our child was still toothless at 11 months old. We were upsetted not so much over the contents of her speech, but of her derogatory tone while expressing her unnecessary amazement. Well, guess there’s nothing much we can do when we are on the receiving end of such remarks from ignorant folks. -_-|

Anyway over the past few days, we started noticing visually that a small part of one of his lower, middle two teeth (central incisors) had started to appear. When I brushed his teeth (edit: gums. haha..) just before his sleep last night, my fingers also felt a hard, sharp edge protruding from that area.
There’s no guarantee that this would certainly be a clear sign of his first tooth emerging, since we had already experienced several false alarms before this. Still, it would be good to finally see his teeth growing since it will aid in his chewing of food and speech abilities.

Did he drool alot and poop irregularly too?
If yes, his teeth should be coming out soon.
Nopes, this time round he didn’t have these symptoms. He does keep biting things around him though.
Hana started showing signs of teething when she was 6 weeks old. O.o In fact, I can already spot the white tips of her bottom 2 front teeth. Though they don’t seem to be growing since emerging a few weeks ago, she’s drooling a LOT these days and loves to chew on anything near her mouth. But it might be a “false alarm” like Darius’ case. ^^ It’s way too early for her to be teething.
I just noticed you wrote: “When I brushed his teeth”.
Hope Darius will grow a tooth soon!
wow, Mama Peanut, that’s really fast! 6 weeks already drooling a lot?
My nephew got teeth when he’s only 4 months old. So it’s possible for Hana to be early too.
Hi Mama Peanut,
I should have phrased it as ‘brushing his gums’ instead. We’ve been practising that like a ritual for a few months already before Darius’ sleep, to give him a cleaner mouth to sleep with and also make it a habit of brushing when he has his own teeth. ^^
Hi Cat,
Yeah, that’s abnormally fast, isn’t it?
I don’t mind if her teeth take their time to appear, because she’s naughty sometimes & bites me while feeding!
Hi Vincent,
That’s a good habit to inculcate. Reminds me to get one of those soft finger brushes, in case Hana suddenly starts growing teeth one of these days. o_O
Aaaawwww…. I was hoping to see a photo of him saying ‘Ahhh….’ or “Eeeee….” so that I could see the cute little white ‘buddings’
Jamie didn’t get his first tooth till he was about 13 months old. I think it was smart of him. He didn’t have to brush his teeth till much later.
Angeline,
Haha I wanted to take a photo of that too but haven’t been successful. ^^|
Jayne,
I’ve read that the later the baby’s first tooth appears, the stronger his/her baby teeth will be. Not sure how true this is, but it’s a good way to think on the bright side for ‘late bloomers’. ^^
finally managed to capture a picture today… just changed the picture in the post.
Aaaawwww….that tiny little white thing…. *smile*
(its your lucky day today! *wink*)
