Cycling Date Between Darius and Me

This evening, I decided to bring Darius out for a short cycling trip, after mounted a child seat for him yesterday (see Cycling with Darius).

We had a nice stroll along a canal at Sembawang (the actual name is ‘Sungei Sembawang’) a month back (see Fun Nature Day Out) and so I wanted to re-visit the place again, however on a bike this time. Catherine was preoccupied with other matters so it would be my first cycling date between Darius and me only. ^^|

Sungei Sembawang was only a 5-minute cycling distance from our home. With such proximity, we should be visiting it more often than we had been.

Like Saturday, today was also a cloudy day, the perfect weather for a nature’s day out. I cycled along the jogging/cycling track along the canal and after travelling for around 1km, we came across a small bridge linking Woodlands Ave 10 and Sembawang. I didn’t know this connector existed and was glad it did as it provided much convenience for people transiting between the two sides of the canal.

Above the pedestrian-only bridge, people were standing and watching the folks fishing down on the left side of the canal (not sure if it’s legal, though there wasn’t any ‘No Fishing’ sign around).

We didn’t stay long enough to see anyone successfully catching any fish but from our bird’s eye views, I interestingly noted that many fishes were actually hiding on the right side of the canal, far away from the anglers. The fishes were probably smart enough to avoid the danger zones and reside at their safe haven. ^^|

Though not clear from the photos, we did see a lot of fishes on the right side from the bridge

Darius and I then proceeded on northwards along Sungei Sembawang. The road was much longer than I had expected; I couldn’t even see the end of the road from here.

After cycling for another kilometre or so, we came across a temple. Noticing the golden God of Wealth statue on its ceiling, I immediately recognised it as the famous Sembawang God of Wealth Temple, though I didn’t realise it was located here. We didn’t enter the temple though and just moved on after taking a few photos.

I wonder if the statue is made of real gold?

From here, the road ahead seemed to lead into the industrial estate. I decided this was as far as we would go today and started to cycle back using the same route.

We came across a playground on our way back and stopped by to let Darius have some fun there. He had been sitting on the child seat throughout the entire journey and I thought he needed to stretch his legs too. However, he didn’t feel very comfortable with the playground and so we left shortly after.

We then headed onto a roof garden on the 2nd floor of a multi-storey carpark situated at Block 469, Sembawang Way. Together with Catherine, we had been here some time back but didn’t stay long then. I thought it would be worth a re-visit, now that we are on wheels.

The place was void of people so we could safely cycle at the garden. We reached a platform with a quiet open space and decided to let Darius walk around freely in the area. He felt much more comfortable there as he walked and explored the area.

A short while later though, I noticed the skies turning dark.

Time to go...

Fortunately no rain had fallen on our way back, else it would be quite drastic for us. We would probably have to seek shelter somewhere till the rain stopped completely.

This 1-hour cycling trip had been fun. After describing our journey to Catherine when we reached home, I hoped she would join us on our next expedition there too. ^^
