Having gone through a trial run with Darius sitting on a child seat on a bicycle I rode (see Darius’ Birthday Treats (Part 2)), Catherine and I felt that we could proceed to mount one on my bicycle too.
Therefore, I cycled to a nearby bicycle shop this morning to have a child seat fitted to the front of my mountain, instead of at the back for safety reasons. Besides being able to keep Darius well in my view, it will also make keeping the balance easier, compared to having him sitting at the back.
It cost S$38 for the seat. Not cheap in my opinion, but should be worth the money since we should be using it for the the next 1 to 2 years too (unless, well, he suddenly grows explosively… ^^|).
Upon returning back to home, I waited after Darius had woken up from his nap before I placed him in the child seat and cycled him to a nearby neighbourhood mall to meet up with Catherine, who had gone there earlier for some matters.
It was an uneventful (which means safe ^^) 10-minute trip as I cycled quite effortlessly to the mall — I had made sure I pumped up sufficient air in the tyres and added lubrication onto the gears to minimise effort needed to cycle with an extra 10-kg passenger weight. ^^
After meeting up with Catherine, we went back to the bicycle shop, wanting to purchase a safety helmet for Darius. Unfortunately, their helmets were only meant for kids of 4 to 5 years old and above. Looks like we will need to look for one somewhere else.
We then shopped around the area and when we saw some kiddy rides, we decided to let Darius try on a few. One of the rides we tried was of a taxi. Well, we can’t tell if he was really enjoying the ride, since he was kinda expression-less and more interested in observing his ride and surroundings. -_-|
After this, we cycled to a nearby park — Woodlands Crescent Park. We used to go there to jog or hang out before Darius was born but had never gone back there thereafter due to the distance from our house. Now with this new method of ferrying Darius there, we should be visiting there more often.
The playgrounds were rather huge and with interesting structures. All of us had fun. ^^
I will be looking forward to more exploration of our neighbourhood with Darius and Catherine, on bicycles. ^^

Nothing beats having a stroll or ride and having ’simple’ fun with the 2 love of your life eh? *wink*
Angeline,
Very much agreed! Life’s too short and stressful not to let ourselves loose often and enjoy the simple, precious moments with our loves ones! ^^
