Darius has now been classified as ‘unstoppable’ by Catherine and I. That is, in relation to his extremely strong desire to walk. ^^|
This afternoon, when we were at a shopping mall looking for a pair of suitable shoes for Darius, I took him out from the stroller since he looked bored sitting in it. Little did I expect that the moment his feet touched the ground, he went into frenzy and started walking forward, even when my grip onto his arm had not been tightened yet.
This went on for several times with me still holding one of his arms, until on one occasion when he shook off my grip and went ahead to walk on by himself! He just walked like that without any support for quite a distance until I had to carry him back.
Yesterday, though he had also started to walk independently, he would only do so on the condition that we were standing in front of him. However for today, he showed us that he would walk by himself regardless if we were there to catch him in case he fell! Whoa, he sure had grown very courageous and daring all of a sudden. o_0|
Here’s a short clip showing one of the times he walked in the mall:
In addition, he had also become more communicative and determined with his own desires. For example, the moment I carried him back into my arms to try out some new shoes on him, he would started whining and trying to break free from me by either arching his back or kicking his feet, so that he could go back to his walking around. Also, it had been increasingly difficult to direct him (while holding one of his arms) to follow our path. Instead, he would struggle so that he could head towards his own destination instead, while trying to break free of our grip at times.
I can’t say these changes are positive, but it does indicate progress in his self-awareness and in following his own decisions.
Back home, we decided to let him walk independently too, and his actions showed consistency with those in the day — He would start strolling off irregardless of our presence, and on several occasions walked into his favourite room all by himself:
It was fun watching him go at his attempts, but also we were starting to feel the extra effort and exhaustion we have to put in to watch over him during his walking feats in case accidents happen.
Last but not least, we managed to buy a new pair of sandals for him, since he has begun to outgrow his current one, and the soles were wearing off from his extensive walking.

It was fun watching him walking non stop. Did you get him a pair of squeaky shoes?
Haha how did you guess? Indeed, it’s a pair of squeaky shoes! We don’t really like those very high pitch sounding types, and got a pair that ain’t that squeaky (I guess). :p
I didn’t guess, I was just wondering haha. I like little kids wearing squeaky shoes, the sound is cute. Have Darius tried walking with squeaky shoes? I wonder if he gets distracted with the sound haha.
