As mentioned in the Development: 11th month Dar post, Darius has recently learnt to pull himself up from the sitting to the standing position using our sofa.
The first few times when he successfully pulled himself up, both Catherine and I were caught completely unaware. We had placed him sitting down on the mat while we were having dinner by his side and the before we know it, he was already in a standing position. o_0|
It was only on Monday evening that we could finally see for ourselves how he had accomplished the feat, as recorded in the video below:
Initially he was having some difficulty pushing his legs straight enough to get into a standing position, but as he did a few more times, he could even pull himself up quite effortlessly, with swift and smooth movement.
On method I had used in guiding him previously was by letting him use my body to try pulling himself up while I used my arms to lift him up a bit. As he gradually got more and more familiar with his movements and posture, I began to reduce the amount of strength used to help lift his body.
We are glad he is able to pull himself up now, as he is another step closer to his independent walking. On the other hand, we are also relieved that we have converted his bassinet into a play yard in time (see No More Co-Sleeping…), else he might already have pulled himself over the sides and fell off the bassinet.
