As Darius begins to gain more confidence taking small steps by himself, we started to play a walking game with him.
Catherine and I would each be sitting down and facing each other, some distance apart, while one of us will hold Darius standing facing the other person. After ensuring that he is standing steadily, we would let go of our hands while the other party motivates him to move towards him/her, either by clapping or calling out his name.
Most of the times, Darius would be able to make it to the other person without much difficulty (though there are times when he would just leap towards the person when he’s almost reaching ^^|).
However, there were of course times when he would trip and fall, but we would be able to react in time and grab hold of him as he fell. There were also a rare few occasions where we could not catch him in time, but guess this is part and parcel of his journey towards independent walking. No serious fall so far though.
Here’s a video clip we took when we were playing the walking game with him. He seems to love the game very much too, especially when he had successfully walked into our open arms and having us congratulating him by praising and hugging him. ^^

*clap clap clap*
this was THE most exciting moment (for me) IN MY parenting life….
to see them on their feet, taking steps forward…. just amazing!
Angeline,
Yes it’s indeed an exciting period for us, and Catherine and I are always joking among ourselves if Darius would suddenly surprise us the next day by walking around the house himself.
