Darius and Catherine have been stucked in the house over the past week due to his illness (see Runny Nose). Since he is recovering well today, we decided to head out to somewhere nature for a breath of fresh air. Moreover, we needed to find a chance for Darius to wear his cap we bought him some time ago ^^|.
Since we have always wanted to visit The Animal Resort at Seletar Farmway, we decided today is a good opportunity to do so.
Reaching the place close to 4pm, the weather was still rather hot, with Darius already dozed off on our way there. The place also looked deserted, and we were starting to think if we have come at the wrong time.
We took a brief stroll in the area, and we was glad Darius started to wake up soon while holding him in our arms. He was showing a gloomy face though. ^^|
As we walked around the area, we spotted roosters, a horse, a goat, some exotic birds roaming around freely, with parrots, guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters kept in cages. There were also puppies for sale in the shop.
More visitors started to turn up and we were glad to know that we were not the only visitors there. Some of them also bought food from the shop to feed the animals. From nowhere, a number of ducks and geese started appearing! Another goat had also appeared behind the fence.
It was fun seeing all these animals roaming around (except for the horse and goats behind fences and the parrots in cages), especially to the kids, since it’s a rare opportunity for them to get really close to them in a natural setting.
As for Darius, he was observing the animals around him, though he felt a little taken aback when we placed him near the geese, since they were as tall as him. I couldn’t imagine myself facing an animal as big as me in close proximity too. ^^|
Moving on, we proceeded to Punggol Park, which was relatively nearby. Ever since I saw the beautiful photos taken by PandanKaya, I’ve been wanting to check out the place.
The weather was cooling as we strolled in the park, observing the people jogging and fishing by the lake. We were quite surprised fishing was allowed in a town park.
We came across a cat sitting quietly by the lake, and she didn’t seem bothered by our company at all. In fact, she would brush her body against our legs. Catherine loves cats and this cat reminded her of the pet cat she used to have. She also commented that this cat might have been abandoned by her owner, since she was rather docile and didn’t mind strangers.
However for Darius, he didn’t seem interested in the animal… -_-|
We didn’t stay there long though as we were already pretty tired, but were filled with envy for the Punggol residents there. If only we have such a nice park in our vicinity too.
Overall, it had been a nice outdoor trip for the three of us, and we were thankful that the weather had been very kind to us — a heavy downpour was coming down on our way home, which reminded us of our trip to Admiralty Park (see Day When Things Go Awry (Part 2)).

Pls allow me to comment something that might not nice to your ear.
Your son had fever 3 weeks ago and now with running nose. Within a month he was sick twice. Baby take longer time than us to recover. I would not bring my child out right immediately after her recovery. If really wan to go out, not to animal farm. You wont know any virus from animal will pass to the child since his body is still recuperating. Better be safe than sorry.
My 2 cents worth.
Well, to me, recovery means well enough to go out.
To each his/her own; for us, being too safe means we miss out on the joys of life sometimes.
We love the Animal Resort btw! We were there twice last week.
fresh air after sickness is definitely a great choice!
you are the second one who blogged about Animal Resort and the temptation is getting so strong for animal-lover – ME!!!
Sunflower,
Thanks for your advice. We are of course aware of that, but we decided that getting some fresh air would do better in his recuperation than staying at home. That’s why we tried to avoid crowded places like shopping malls.
Evelyn,
Thanks for your support. Wow envy you could go there so frequently. For us, we had to make arrangements to rent a car to get there since it’s inaccessible by public transport, and taking a taxi there doesn’t seem to be a viable alternative either, as we are worried we couldn’t call a taxi back from the place.
Angeline,
Thanks for your support too. We were also tempted to go to The Animal Resort after reading it on another parenting blog some time back. It’s indeed a nice place to break ourselves free from the urban life.
It’s not too inaccessible for us because we live along the NEL. So we take the train to Sengkang MRT and get a cab from there, it’s about $5. It’s just the coming back that’s a hassle; you have to book a cab. But I think there’s an LRT station that’s about a 5-min drive away, am just not sure which one.
Forgot to add that I didn’t have any trouble with cab bookings or lost cabbies so far, have been there 4-5 times already. For now, I much prefer the Animal Resort to the zoo!
Evelyn,
Thanks for sharing about your experience. Glad to know that the cabs are willing to travel to the Animal Resort; we will consider taking a cab there next time then. ^^
Indeed, the Animal Resort allows for a more rustic and kampung feel than the Zoo.
