This afternoon, we went down to Expo Hall 6A for the Motherhood Exhibition 2009. A healthy number of visitors were at the exhibition, as we did not face much difficulty moving around the exhibition hall with Darius in the stroller.
We started off by searching for the Beco baby carrier booth, as we wanted to have Darius try on it before he fell asleep for his afternoon nap. However, we walked several rounds in the hall but still couldn’t locate the booth. Even enquiring at the information counter didn’t help much, as the staff mentioned that the owner of the booth might have shared the booth with another company, thus having the booth labelled under that company’s name.
Only after another intensive round of searching did we finally find the booth. We then requested to try out the carrier; Catherine wore the carrier and placed Darius in front, facing her. He appeared to be comfortable in it and had no complain. We then switched to the back-carrying position, with Darius leaning onto Catherine’s back.
Just moments later in this position, Darius started to show an unhappy look, to the verge of even crying. We couldn’t determine what had caused his change of mood — was it discomfort, fear or like the salesgirl said, because he couldn’t see mummy’s face?
Anyway we removed Darius from the carrier and he immediately resumed to his happy look again. Hmm…
After considering the usefulness of the carrier and Darius’ receptivity to it, we decided it wasn’t suited for us, though Catherine mentioned that it was comfortable and Darius felt lighter to her when carrying him using the carrier. The special price they offered was pretty attractive though, at S$220 with freebies (usual price: S$250).
We then moved on to the Bumwear booth, wanting to buy more cloth diapers and training pants for Darius. We bought two pieces of each kind in the end.
Following that, we decided to check out the photo studio booths too, as we were interested in engaging a photographer for Darius’ 1-year-old photo shoot. Though some of the special packages they offered were attractive, we did not manage to find one whose style or pricing would suit us.
With that, we left the exhibition and headed to our next destination — Jumbo Seafood @ East Coast Seafood Centre. We had decided to have our dinner there for our 6th ROM anniversary.
Reaching there, we chose the air-conditioned setup over the open-air’s, due to the hot weather. The downside was that I needed to carry the stroller all the way up to the second floor.
We fed Darius his cereal while we waited for the dishes to arrive. We had ordered Chilli Crabs with a Sotong + Chicken skin dish. We have been craving for Chilli Crabs but kept calling thee plan off as we felt we wouldn’t be able to eat in peace with Darius around. ^^|
When the dishes arrived, we were fortunate to eat peacefully for five minutes while Darius busied himself with a toy in his stroller. However, he started complaining after a while later, and we had to pacify him while finishing off our dishes. Still, it wasn’t too bad a dinner, though we haven’t decided if we would return to Jumbo or patronise Long Beach Seafood the next time instead, as we had used to fulfill our cravings there.
After the dinner, we walked towards the seaside to enjoy the breeze and watched the sea as the full moon towered above us. The air blowing at us was not exactly cooling (due to the hot weather in the day) but it was still a relaxing moment for us. ^^
With that, we headed home to prevent overshooting Darius’ sleeping time.

I am a Beco Carrier user personally. I feel this is one of the good carriers I ever used. I tried Combi before, and we (me and Yvette) don’t like it. I brought Beco Carrier even without trying it. (by word of mouth)
I used it for our second KL trip and while I am out with Yvette alone. It is not only light but comfortable. And Yvette always falls asleep in carrier after her class at GUG when we are on our way home.
I guess Darius’ receptivity to it because he is hardly being carried in such position and he is feeling unsecured instead of discomfort. (How many times you have back carried him???)
I can let Cat try my carrier for one week before you all shelve the idea of getting one. Even though your son might able to walk independently soon but getting a carrier is a good substitute for stroller where certain places are hard to move around with a stroller. And you can use it for your (short) holiday without bring your stroller along. (Not every county is baby-friendly; the road in KL is hard to move around using stroller. You can’t be always carrying your child when the doze off without a carrier and a stroller.)
Oh well, I am not trying to asking you to buy one and I earn no commission in asking you to buy one too. As a full time mother, we carry our child a lot. I feel having a good carrier is essential in our motherhood journey.
Hi Sunflower,
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will discuss with Cat again on the carrier. ^^
oh you use the Beco too?! I just discovered it by accident on Thursday night and found out they had it at the fair for try-outs.
I only heard of Ergo. but i love the designs of the Beco.
We do have a carrier, a Mothercare one and a Mums In Mind Sling. There’s why we are hesistant to get another one. But Mothercare’s one is not that easy to operate and the legs area is velcro plus clip-on straps. Takes longer time to put on and that’s why I seldom use it.
Yes I used Beco for several months. (I going to blog about it!)
I started with Sling then I brought a combi carrier from Motherhood forum. When I started to find Sling is not so secured for both of us, I started to look out for one. I sold away the carrier I brought from the forum after trying it for 2 months. I found it was not suitable. Not light and not comfortable enough.
I did some research on both Ergo and Beco and decided to go for Beco due to more of the designs.
After using it for my trip, I am confident to say it is really good.
Don’t worry about the design I have. It is definitely ok to put Darius on it. It suit both boy and ger.
Let me know whether you wan to try it or not. I can hop by to GUG or Novena MRT to pass that to you. Try to carry Darius to your in law place, I am sure you will find it easy!
hee, Sunflower, you made me so tempted to spend for it. Yes, you guess my mind, I want to use it for going to my in-law’s place because he’s getting too heavy to carry by hand!
alas, the pricing is holding me back because good stuff equal great price…still thinking whether to spend for this or other more worthy stuff.
Haha.. try for it.
Even your son can walk by one you won’t want him to move around “so freely” in the public. Dangerous hor!
As I said earlier, good carrier is essential. And if you have plan for second baby, why not invest one now. This type of carrier will get more expensive.
P/S: I am on MSN now. You might wan to come online. We can talk about it
I like Darius photo with vincent, he looks very handsome and sweet.
Hi Brownie,
Thanks for the compliments on Darius (though none for me :p).
Brownie, notice it’s taken by Mummy..*grin.
He’ll only smile for me most of the time. In most photos of Me and Darius boy, he isn’t smiling because Daddy is taking the photo…haha. Only sometimes, he’ll smile for Daddy.
