Catherine has been diligently playing the Wink To Learn DVD (Chinese version) to Darius on a daily basis on weekdays (see Learning Activities for Darius (Part 2)) and I’m supposed to complement her efforts with the flashing of cards at night during our playtimes (see Chinese Flash Cards for Darius).

However, I’ve been laxed on my responsibilities and had only resumed flashing the cards to him this Tuesday night. ^^|

Then on yesterday evening, we decided to have a ‘quiz’ with Darius to see what were the chances he could pick out the correct card from a choice of two, after I voiced out the Mandarin word representing the picture.

We were surprised that out of the 8 sets, Darius had correctly picked the right cards 6 times. However, before he can start showing consistency, we will take this result with a pinch of salt, to prevent ourselves from setting too high an expectation of him. ^^|

More importantly, we were having lots of fun doing the quiz with him, and were especially amused by how he would often need to rotate one round using his buttocks and ‘ponder over the correct answer’ before he felt confident enough to provide us with his answer by tapping on the card. He wasn’t like that in the previous quizzes we had with him, when he would just look at the cards and tap on one without thinking much.

I noticed that there were some instances when he was more confident with, and he would decide on a card without much hesitation. I realised that these cards fell under the ‘body parts’ category, which were the first cards I introduced him when we first bought the cards in March. That was probably the reason why he was more familiar with them.

Below are some funny clips we took of him during the quiz: ^^
