I managed to get a corporate pass for Science Centre yesterday and have planned to visit it together with Catherine and Darius. The last time we went there was three years ago, so this will be the first time Darius is going with us.
Upon entering the place, we were pleasantly surprised that the place had undergone some revamp, making the place looked and felt nicer, though many of the exhibits had remained unchanged. In fact, quite a number of them had been there since I was a primary school kid. o_0|
We had a fun time checking out some of the exhibits with Darius, letting him get closer to them by carrying him on our arms alternately. We were glad he was curious with some of the exhibits and he even couldn’t get his eyes and hands off them. ^^|
When we walked to the Discovery Zone which was especially meant for kids, we had quite a bit of fun there. The very famous and cutesy chick hatching exhibit can be found there too.
There was also an ‘animal’ section, where children could climb into the area to view some creatures behind glass walls. The ceiling was very low (read: for children only) so I had to squat and walk with Darius to check out the exhibits.
I was surprised to see a whole container filled of crokcoaches (not for the faint hearted), though the subsequent displays were better, with cute hamsters and white mice. Darius was particularly interested in a white mouse which just couldn’t stop running:
Anyway, one of our objectives in visiting Science Centre today was to bring him to Waterworks, a splash park type of section that allows kids to have fun with the water exhibits there. We thought since entry tickets were required into the Science Centre first, there should be lesser children playing there.
We changed Darius into his swim wear, and dipped him into a shallow pool with plastic balls. However, he did not seem interested and were in fact a little frightened to be in it.
Not wanting to ‘torment’ him further, we removed him from the pool and I put him onto the ground instead, guiding him to walk through a water maze. It was actually a place with water sprouting out from the ground, and in order to prevent being splashed, you will have to navigate through the maze and come out from the other side.
Since walking is an activity Darius loves a lot, he managed to enjoy himself walking through the maze with me.
With the other water exhibits either not working or uninteresting, we concluded our water activities with Darius. When we went back to the centre for the bath, we were shivering as it was air-conditioned just outside the bathing area. Thumbs down for a bad design.
After we finished bathing and changing, we quickly gave Darius his warm milk feed and covered him in a blanket, hoping he would not catch a cold as a result of the changing temperatures earlier.
Following that, we took another short stroll in the centre before heading home, as both Catherine and I were already feeling tired.
Well, it wasn’t a bad trip overall, but guess the next time we’ll bring Darius there would be when he is older and become even more appreciative of the exhibits there. ^^

hehe.. sounds like a nice trip to me too..
Bosco has the same pair of shoes!
Hi Holly,
Looks like we all got the same taste for nice shoes! ^^
Oh, I never knew Science Centre had a splash park area. Is it new?
Singapore Discovery Centre is another fun place to go, but I guess it’ll be better when Darius is older so he can enjoy the games & rides there.
I guess the splash park has been there for at least three years, since we have noticed it when we last went there. Nothing much to play there frankly, compared to the some of the shopping malls nowadays.
Yes, we will be looking forward to let him explore at the centre again when he’s older. ^^
