The Great Crossing Through Cruising

One month ago, Darius only started cruising.

Then, he moved steadily to the edge of the sofa and back.

Later, he noticed ‘an island’ and there seemed to be interesting things there. It was taller and further but it didn’t stop his eager self.

When he could finally reached the ‘island’ with ease, he decided it wasn’t enough. He wanted more…

That’s when on Wednesday at 9 months&3 weeks old, he completed this obstacle course.

Maybe some people will look at the clip above and think,

“Chey! What’s so great about this?”

As a SAHM, I get to witness every minute milestone and get too overly excited but the tiny gap of space is not an easy task at all to a child learning to walk. It  comprises of thinking how to, stretching out to test the distance, standing alone for a second sometimes so hands can be free to go for another object, and finally grabbing desired location using pincer grasp. Anytime these are not coordinated well, he goes down.

Just the day before, he crashed into the bookshelf in his first attempt and got himself some bruises in the side of the face. Heartache for Daddy. No thanks to Mummy’s theory of always letting him try something out himself without help, but with mummy supervising.

So this was a great second attempt with no help from me though he was quite afraid at first (I think he remembered the crash). When he finally figured out, my heart leapt.

He doesn’t go the entire length of the console though because he finds no challenge there. Too long to the other end. Or probably too high for his arms. Ha. Maybe someday.

Thus, this is yet another step to his walking independently.
