Cruising A Step at A Time

Posted Under (Darius' 7-9mths, His Milestones) on Monday, 4 May 2009 at 1:29 pm

Darius has been making good progress in his cruising.

We are still waiting for him to crawl so he can pull up to the sofa himself and do his cruise. In the meantime, we help him cruise by propping him against the sofa.

Since the time he started to cruise, we have only been letting him walk half the length of the sofa, left and right. Hubby found out a way to make him walk. He placed a toy alphabet at the other end of the sofa and Darius automatically walked towards it. Once he got it, we will take the toy away and put it at the other end again, so he can walk in the other direction.

Finally, a few days ago, I found that he could do a right turn to go towards the coffee table too and remained steady.

That’s when we decided that the coffee table should go so he can explore the whole length of the sofa for his cruising exercise. It’s now placed where the exersaucer used to be.

Since he always want to go towards the remote controllers, we placed an old one at the far end for him to walk towards. He moved immediately the moment he’s placed against the sofa, so eager to get it.

Then, we took away and made him walk in the opposite direction, this time a greater challenge by placing it beyond the bend. It was fun to see him edging towards his ‘prize’, stretch out his hand, pause “not yet”, walk, measure again, walk, before finally reaching it.

He still does not know how to bend his knee, so when this happened,

he just forgo the object (that’s why we must use an old one) and grab his next prized object – magazine.

He cries if he falls though so we have the abc mat below to protect him and also the mattress in the centre to cushion.

Now this has become a daily exercise for him.
