At 9 months old, we felt it was a suitable time for Darius to get exposed to more stuff, and so we decided to book a trial class at Baby Jumper Gym, situated at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok Clubhouse.
For those who don’t drive (like us), getting there isn’t exactly easy, as it’s a distance from Bukit Gombak MRT Station. You can take the bus 845 opposite the station to reach the place, but you will still have to walk a bit since the bus stop will be a distance away.
Despite knowing how to get there by MRT and bus, we took a cab there instead as we were already running late when we left home. ^^|
When we reached the place, we were a little surprised that the gym at the Baby Jumper Gym was quite small, not like what we had expected. Probably it’s because we have seen the bigger gyms at other baby gyms.
Anyway, we filled in the registration form and started the trial class with another friendly couple, whose son was 7 months old, and he always putting on a bright smile. Although he was only 7-month old, he was as tall as Darius and physically larger than him. ^^|
The young and lovely instructor started with some introduction, followed by rapid flashing of flash cards. There were also other activities like eye-following exercise, sensory session (between cold and warm objects), right brain training (by showing two similiar cards with some differences) and some singing sessions.
Meanwhile, about ten minutes into our class, another couple joined in with their 7 month old daughter. The husband came in after that, who was probably parking his car before than. Throughout the whole session though, he was putting on a stern and unfriendly look. This was supposed to be a relaxing session with our children but obviously he was not enjoying it. -_-|
After the 30-minute class, we proceeded on to the gym, where we were guided on how to help our children in creeping (a phase before actual crawling) and training his eye-hand coordination using monkey bar exercises etc.
Although the trial class was pretty fun, which has a good mixture of learning and physical exercises (that’s why we were interested in it the first place), we didn’t find it very beneficial for Darius.
For the flash cards, the pictures that were flashed were very ‘specific’ ones, such as the different species of the marine and freshwater fishes etc. There might be a reason why these choices were made, but we didn’t feel identifying the different species would do much help to Darius’ learning or bring out his interests.
The other parts of the class were alright, but we still felt inadequacy compared to our initial expectations. So we just paid for the trial class (if you sign up for the term of 10 weeks on the spot, this trial class will be free) and decided to check out the trial classes in other baby gyms first to find a more suitable class for Darius.
Anyway, the other couple had decided to sign up the package for their son, so the class would still be suitable for different people, depending on what they are looking for. ^^
