Catherine had been wanting to get a tricycle for Darius for quite some time, but was hesitant as we wondered if he is big enough to be able to sit in one safely.
However, after seeing some of the tricycles used by parents in our neighbourhood, we found out that they are actually quite safe as long as the child is able to sit well. We determined Darius was ready and proceeded with our search for one yesterday.
It didn’t take us much time to hunt for a suitable tricycle, when a green-coloured (a bit bright, but at least it looks comfortable to our eyes compared to the others beside it ^^|) caught our eyes. It was placed on the top shelf of Kiddy Palace, and with the staff busying themselves with other customers, we decided to DIY and brought down the tricycle which was still properly wrapped up.
We adjusted the wrapping for the seat and let Darius go through a trial drive in the store. He sat (or sometimes, stood) steadily in his new vehicle, and appeared to enjoy his new mobileness, though he had not be able to hold on to the handles consistently while on the move.
Believeing that this was the right one for him, we bought it at S$50+ (usual price was S$70+, according to the price tag), carried it around the shopping mall before getting a cab home.
During the evening, we decided to bring Darius down for a spin in his new vehicle.
As we pushed him along the neighbourhood, eyes were often turned upon him, probably due to the brightly-coloured tricycle and due to their surprise of how young he was to have been placed on a tricycle (aka reckless parents? ^^|).
Most of the time he wasn’t holding on to the handles, and was instead at his usual ‘surrender’ pose with both his arms held high. We were a bit concerned about his safety as he wasn’t grabbing hold of anything, but it turned out that he was balancing himself quite well. He even stood up a few times while the tricycle was pushed along. -_-|
We spotted another couple with their child sitting on a similar tricycle (bright green in colour too ^^). It should have a good opportunity for us to mingle and get to know each other, but I missed the chance to do so due to hesitance. -_-| I told myself that I gonna take the initiative to go up to them the next time we see them again.
Overall, we had fun pushing and watching him on the tricycle, and preferred this than the stroller when bringing him around in the neighbourhood. Whilst on the tricycle, he would have a wider and open view of his surroundings, instead of keeping him couped up in the more ‘covered’ stroller.

Such a coincident, my sis just bought the same Tricycle for Nicholas as well. Same, Nicholas was standing and sometimes not holding the handles when we push him around.
Oh, that looks like fun!
Can the metal pushbar at the back be removed when he’s big enough to cycle on his own?
Hi Mama Peanut,
Yes, it can be removed. Also, the foot rest can also be removed when he’s ready to cycle. ^^
I’m quite impressed with the design of the tricycle to allow him to continue using it as he grows up.
The ‘noise’ produced upon pressing the three small buttons at the front is kinda noisy though… Considering to remove the batteries. ^^|
Oh…didn’t realise there’s a battery-operated toy on it. Even tricycles nowadays are full of gizmos. And I just noticed the armrests! Nice design. Darius looks totally at home riding on it, considering it’s his first time. ^^
Yups it has a comfortable set of armrests, which can be lifted up to the back if not needed.
On top of that, the tricycle even has suspensions under the seat! I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the designer! ^^|
Aaawww… so nice!
*pout* I wanted to buy one for my boys too when they were young… but *sigh* somehow or rather I guess the desire just died….
Hi Angeline,
Glad we made a decisive move to get the tricycle before it’s too late then! ^^|
Is this with safety belt? We saw one with safety belt and plan to buy one for Yvette after she turn one.
Hi Sunflower,
No it doesn’t come with a safety belt, but the armrests are acting as the safety bars.
Hi Meizhen,
Sorry for the late response. Somehow your comment post landed up in the spam inbox by the spam detector.
Haha looks like Nicholas and Darius both cannot sit still on the tricycle. Fortunately the armrests are still quite sturdy and will prevent them from falling off.
I didn’t expect to see Darius on tricycle so soon, that’s so cute.
Thanks Brownie!
Instead of putting him at risk on a bicycle child seat, we chose to let him have his own tricycle instead~ ^^
