Darius will be officially nine months old tomorrow.
Lately, we have been putting him against the sofa as he could hold onto objects for a quite a long time without falling. He has also grown taller and could press down with his hands easily.
Then, we noticed he started moving his feet and stepping them while holding onto the sofa.
So I encouraged him by putting him against the sofa everyday and getting him to come towards me. Recently, I let go of his hand and let him come towards me by himself.
He begin to turn his body and could actually cruise a little holding onto the sofa, stepping towards me til he falls into my embrace.
For a few days, ‘Falling into our embrace’ was a game for him as he kept putting up his hands and fall towards us, not caring about the distance. Too daring. =.=”
We also tend to let him practice standing without support but still next to him. On Easter Sunday, he could suddenly stand for at least 4 seconds without support by putting his hands high up. But he has the tendency to come towards us again so he can’t stand long. Then, yesterday, I played with him and he could stand for the longest of about 7-8 seconds. We were really amazed. He also keeps laughing as he do that as if ‘showing off’ to us.
I read though that he still must be able to squat down/stooping while standing before he can really walk on his own.
From Babycenter:
At about 8 months your baby will probably start trying to pull himself up to a stand while holding onto furniture (so make sure everything in his path is sturdy enough to support him). If you help him along by propping him up next to the sofa, he’ll hang on for dear life. After a couple of weeks mastering this standing position, he’ll start to cruise, moving from one piece of furniture to the next for support. He may even be able to let go and stand without support. Once he can do that, he may be able to take steps when held in a walking position, or even scoop up a toy from a standing position.
At 9 or 10 months your baby will begin to figure out how to bend his knees and how to sit after standing (which is harder than you might think!).
By 11 months your baby will probably have mastered standing solo, stooping, and squatting. He may even walk while gripping your hand, though he probably won’t take his first steps alone for at least a few more weeks.
So Darius still can’t crawl on all fours, or pull himself up to sitting or standing position. But he can hold onto things and step a little. He can stand without support for a while and also steps when we hold him by the palms and walk around the house.
I still put him on his tummy to practise crawling but he just hates it. Even if you put toys in front of him or call to him, he would not reach for it and just stares, eventually fussing. He rather pushed on his hands to move backwards. I wonder if he’ll skip that stage.

Happy 9th MOnth, Cutie!!!
Those first steps are truly the most memoriable…
My brother skipped the crawling stage and started walking at 10 months. Maybe it’ll be the same case for Darius? ^^
And happy 9th month to Darius!
Thank you both on behalf of Darius! ^^
Hmm, I still hope he’ll do some crawling before walking though as it is still a milestone. Maybe not exactly on all fours but some form of?
