Feed

Darius has been drinking his milk from the spout teat of Magmag somewhere around the end of his 7th month but he couldn’t be trusted to hold onto it.

A week ago, he finally started drinking it and finishing it on his own, taking out of his mouth sometimes, look at it then putting it back  again, not moving much til he finished it.

I can leave him drinking, with some music playing in the background (like the music cd we got for him), go off to do my chores, and come back to find that he has finished drinking it…though still not letting go.

It is also rather useful for times when we are out doing shopping because we just have to give him the milk in the Magmag and he’ll drink it in the stroller while we pushed him around.

No more sitting around in babycare rooms (unless we need a rest) waiting for him to finish or holding it for him. No more lamenting there’s no seats in the babycare rooms to use or trying to feed him awkwardly on the sofa.

He could hold onto the previous BFree plus bottle but it might leak when he does not drink properly so we couldn’t trust him not to dirty the stroller cushion. With Magmag’s spill proof teat, it was hassle-free.

Nearing the end of his drinking however, we still have to hold & tilt the bottle more to get the small amount into his mouth or he’ll be forever drinking.

Sleep

Lately, he has been resisting sleep alot in the afternoon and sometimes at night. It takes longer now to get him to go to sleep. Sometimes, he may appear to be tired but he’ll toss and turn or stare blankly for one hour. So we pushed back his bedtime to 9pm or later and in the afternoon, I also adjusted his nap time to one hour later. This is to make sure he’s really tired and he’ll conk out when I rocked him a bit.

Remember I was so happy that time when he could sleep on his own? (See ‘About Sleep-Part 2‘). It was a short-lived thing because he started flipping soon after and we started not giving him the pacifier.

So he has reverted to having me to rock him in the daytime for a while before he’ll sleep after putting him down and stroking his back. If he’s not too tired, I’ll end up patting him for a long time and he’ll do his protesting. Sometimes, I have to use the pacifier too if he ends up crying too much.

So much for independence on sleeping and freedom of pacifier. I think he keeps changing as he grows.

He likes his bed so much that he will kick, babble or do some turning onto his tummy before making loud enough noises to let me know he’s awake.  Lately, I will find him already wet by then when he has always been calling out for me to bring him to pee. Therefore, he is still not consistent on ECing.

The good thing is that he can stay asleep for 1-2hours freeing me to do other stuff.

Night time is still the same. He will start to feel tired around 8plus. We change him to his pjs, clean his gums, apply teething gel, switch on the music cd, then start patting him after turning him to his side, hugging his bolster.

It takes a while more nowadays then in the past.  He just stares blankly in front, refusing to close his eyes or keep talking with the pacifier in his mouth. He will also keep turning left and right.

We have to keep turning him to one side after he flip on his back to hug his bolster and hold him in place while we stroke his back. After some minutes, he will finally fall asleep.

We will then leave him in the dark room with only the light from the alarm clock and air purifier and closed the door. He sleeps until morning around 7 am, waking up a few times in the night to pee or because he wants the pacifier.
