Every week, we will bring Darius over to my parents’ house for dinner and visit. As Catherine has to bring Darius from home via public bus all by herself, she has to hand carry Darius without the use of our stroller.

Hand-carrying him without a stroller makes it convenient to travel by bus, but it also makes her journey on foot difficult, especially since Darius has been healthily gaining weight (he weighed 9kg the last time he visited a doctor when he was 8 months old).

Also, after our dinner, we will often walk to the nearby NTUC FairPrice supermarket for our grocery shopping. Without the stroller though, we will have to take turns carrying him while we shopped.

Yesterday it suddenly crossed our minds that perhaps we should get a supermarket trolley and let Darius sit on it, since he has already been doing a good job sitting independently. And so after tossing in the S$1 coin as deposit, off we went with Darius on the trolley!

"Daddy, I'm counting on you to keep me safe."

As we moved around in the supermarket, Darius got pretty comfy in his new ‘seat’ while grabbing hold of the trolley to support himself. His eyes were also constantly scanning around his vicinity, busying himself by observing and out-stretching his arms towards items that interest him, which were basically all the things around him. ^^|

The brightly coloured fruits caught his attention the most

We were glad this ‘trolley method’ turned out fine and relieved our aching arms from carrying Darius and our bags, while keeping him awake and happy on the trolley.

We will be looking forward to our subsequent grocery shopping trips with Darius on his make-shift stroller!

As for Catherine’s tedious travel by foot, we will either use the baby carrier we bought some time back or come out with some other solution…
