Darius at 8 months is very expressive. When he’s happy, he’ll jiggle with joy, with arms and legs shaking. When he’s angry, he’ll clench his fist and turn red in the face. He loves music and would visibly stop his activities to listen carefully or turn towards the source.
When we bring him out for walks, he would be so busy turning his head and sometimes whole body, here and there to find the source of the sound (like car engine, kids laughing), and he enjoys looking at moving vehicles and people. Once he’s outside of home, he is totally concentrated on the surroundings, absorbing the sights and sounds. He would put on this serious look and not even smile or laugh when we smile at him.
He can still sit still on my lap for long period when I need him to and seldom tries to wriggle out of my grasp unless it is really too long. This behaviour is useful for our many bus, mrt and taxi rides, at restaurants and also at church. This made a lot of people commented that he is very ‘guai’. Hopefully, he’ll still continue to be like this when he learns to crawl or walk.
He likes to be on his tummy for long period on a soft surface like his mattress but dislike the harder playmat and will complain after a little while. We have upgraded his stepping activity to letting him hold onto a walker and also holding him by the palms. He enjoys this activity a lot.

Physical Development at the start of 8 months old:
- He is still moving backwards on tummy but sometimes, his buttocks will move up a little.
- He is supporting himself straight on his hands now, lifting his upper body off the floor level during tummy time, but still unable to lift his lower body.
- He can step well when I hold him only by his palms and walk towards me.
- He can lunge forward more and grab toys slightly in front or side of him while seated.
- He can bend his body side to side and backwards (knocking my face with his head sometimes, ouch).
- When he stands with us holding him, he likes to stoop (To bend his body forward and down)
- He can pass objects very well from one hand to another and is able to hold onto different objects on both hands at the same time.
- He is developing good pincer grasp, picking up star-shapped Gerber puffs between his thumb and forefinger from my hand and self-feeding.
- He likes to play peek-a-boo with us. When we disappear behind something and reappearing, he will chuckle.
Vocal Development at the start of 8 months old:
- He is voicing all the time now whenever he could when he plays by himself. Sometimes, it seemed like he’s trying to sing because there’s variations.
- He has learnt to shout out continuously when he’s bored and often we have to hurry through our meal in a restaurant or foodcourt or his shouts will disturb others.
Social Development at the start of 8 months old:
- He always smiles happily at strangers, thinking they want to play with him.
Towards Independence:
- He has started to drink milk from level 2 sprout (sippy) of Magmag.

- I am also letting him drink milk from the sprouted tip cup of the Pigeon feeding set. He could drink one mouthful by one mouthful without making a mess.
- He can hold his milk bottle now.
- We are bringing out with cloth diaper and doing ECing outside home too. So far, it has been successful for two weekends but most still based on timing instead of him telling us.
- He is able to sleep without a pacifier now during the daytime naps but still needing it at night.
Physical Development:
- He now weighs 9.0 kg (75 percentile) and measures around 70.5 cm (50 percentile) in height.

The first photo, top right, is that his angry face, it is so cute. What will make him get angry.
ha, not really his angry face. It’s much much scarier, all red and clenched features. This is just his ‘what-are-you-doing?’ or ‘What-do-you-want-with-me-face?’ He is bored that I kept taking his pictures.
wah.. so fast Dairus is 8mths Old now..
They wouldn’t be get bored, I think very soon Dairus will know how to pose and do cheeky face during photo-taking.
