Darius Down with Fever

According to Catherine, Darius’ fever started mid-afternoon yesterday, and was thus a bit cranky throughout the day. We decided to hold back on his fever medication to see if his own immune system could help him recover.

Meanwhile, we were considering the possibile causes of his fever, and his recent visit to the hospital (see Darius in the Out of Bounds Zone) is one of them. Whatever the reason, our priority would be to help him recover as soon as possible.

However by nightfall, his fever had not subsided, so we fed him the fever medication from his last doctor visit. He felt better after taking the medicine. In fact, he immediately fell asleep in Catherine’s arms.

To further helping to get his temperature down, we bought a pack of disposable cooling pads and applied it onto his forehead. It stuck nicely onto his skin and that should help cooled him down further.

We had a Cadi ear/forehead thermometer bought from the Babycare Festival 2008 when Catherine was still pregnant, but recently it seemed to have malfunctioned, giving weird temperature readings most of the times. We are now seeing if the thermometer is still under warranty and if we can still get it repaired.

Throughout the night, he woke up several times and we had to attend to him to get him back to sleep. At around 1am, his body started to feel warm again, and so we fed him a new dose of the fever medication, together with the application of a new cooling pad.

He appeared to be much better this morning (I took urgent leave to help take care of him), though his forehead still feels feverish. I had just applied another cooling pad and he had just gotten back to sleep in his cot.

Hopefully he will recover soon and resume his jovial self again!
