Darius started holding his own milk bottle recently at 7.5 mths old.
Last week on the 27th of Feb, I decided to let him take hold of it because he would concentrate on drinking it now instead of turning here and there or play with the teat.

I was happy to discover that he could hold it for quite long. He would only let go three four times where I would put his hands back on again, and sometimes, he would even hold it for the entire feed drinking non-stop. I still have to be around though because he cannot be counted on not to let go.
To let him be more independent, I have been letting Darius hold his milk bottle since he was 6 months old but he would only hold on for seconds with two palms before letting go. I will keep putting his hands back though, persisting and telling him, “Darius, hold it yourself”.
This recent success is probably due to his sudden liking of milk.I wonder if he’s undergoing a growth spurt because he would actually smile when he sees his milk bottle and keep drinking it without stopping.
What a bliss for me as I no longer need to agonise over him not drinking his milk properly! No more nagging or singing to get him to concentrate. When it’s nearing the end of the feed, he would even hold the bottle with one hand.

Hi Meizhen,
Darius went through that phase too, and we suspected that it could be the teat’s hole was too small for him, making his sucking of the milk difficult and too slow for him (Darius is quite impatient). We changed to a bigger teat and he had since finished his milk feeds quickly and obediently.
Yar babies tend to get pretty distracted during milk feeds too so the faster they finish their milk, the less likely they will be distracted.
