Well, I was trying to be funny with the title, though the content of this post is not supposed to be as light-hearted. ^^|
Yes, Darius was diagnosed with diarrhoea during our first trip to a pediatrician (PD) this morning. We have visited the clinic in Woodlands, which seems to be the only PD in the North region.
We arrived at 11am and was taken aback by the crowd. The clinic was basically fully packed with some parents waiting outside. I have earlier called to make an appointment yesterday but was asked to just walk in instead.
We were told to wait for an hour and we did as told while we went for our breakfast. When we returned, we were asked to wait for another 30 minutes. By the time our turn came, it was already past 1pm; which means we had already waited more than two hours just to see the PD. We are not sure if we are going to waste so much time waiting again the next time.
Anyway, we had intended to let Darius take his next vaccination since he’s already 6 months old, and also for the PD to perform a 6-month assessment on him while answering some of the questions we have in mind.
However, after asking some questions about his diet and stool patterns, the PD diagnosed that Darius is having diarrhoea. According to her, as long as there’s any change in the stool pattern of a baby, it’s considered diarrhoea. She then examined Darius’ stomach to confirm her diagnosis.
Darius had previously been pooping only once per day, but have done so twice or thrice instead on certain days recently. Also, his stools started to become more watery, though he had not complained during the day or neither had he behave differently. That was why we were very surprised to find out that Darius was in fact feeling unwell.
However, upon hearing the PD’s diagnosis, we realised it might have been the answer to some of the questions we had in mind, such as why Dairus’ bottom had become reddish at times, and why he had been waking up in the middle of the night lately wailing with his eyes closed. For the latter, his tummy might have been uncomfortable during those times.
Because of his condition, we had to postpone his vaccination till he’s well. We were given some medication and were told to switch back to Enfalac (Stage 1) instead of the EnfaPro (Stage 2) milk powder which we had just started on this morning. We were also told to stop any cereal feeding to Darius and dilute our milk feed to 50% to 75% of the original concentration till his stool pattern has resumed back to normal.
As Darius was still behaving normally (he has always been so during the days), we asked to proceed with the 6-month assessment but was told she would only do it together with the vaccination. She appeared to be in a rush (well, she did have many customers waiting outside) and before we could finish asking our questions, we were ‘ushered’ to leave.
Right now, Darius is sleeping soundly after taking his medication. In fact, he just pooped again (quite watery still) during his dream feed. Hopefully he will have a good deep rest tonight as his system begins to clear the bacteria, and recover fully soon.

orh.. when they know to crawl.. it’s very common for the diarhoea because they always pick up the things from the floor and eat.. Don’t care what he picking up.. as long can put inside the mouth..
You so fast Change to Enfapro (stage 2)? Actually for Matt until 13mths old then I changed to Enfapro (stage2) because that time the Sales person for the Enfalac told me that Enfalac (stage 1) vitamin and contain is more than Enfapro (Stage 2)..
Anyway, you can refer at milk tin for the nutrition information.
Cat,
You still bf?
Remember to treat his rash as well if there is any.
Use Desitin creamy a better rash cream than Drapolene.
I didn’t know we should change the milk powder later…? But enfalac will be more expensive as a newborn milk right?hmmm… He’s going to start solid food too so may not be that necessary to supplement so much nutrients?
Darius has been on formula milk since he was born because of my complications after delivery.
Anyway, his diarrhoea started because I fed him rice cereal again after some time of absence where he wasn’t eating them properly. That’s when his poop started turning runny so maybe he’s having some kind of intolerance to cereals…
Sunflower- Yup, we have desitin creamy and is using it.
