Both of us felt Darius has changed. He is no longer having an innocent, I-don’t-know-anything look on him. Nowadays, he studies things, has a lot of different emotions and likes to express his likes and dislikes. He knows when I’m angry with him and may even look guilty or keep quiet after a fussy episode.

When he sees me after a nap, he’ll kick his legs high into the air and give me the widest smile ever as if he hasn’t seen me for a long time. Then, he’ll jiggle his body about when I lift him into my arms, chuckling very happily.

His emotions are often on a roller-coaster ride as he can turn from smiling and laughing to having a frown instantly. He also complains a lot when he lies down for a while. He’s happiest when he’s standing and his joy is expressed by swaying his body, arms and vocalising his ‘hoos hoos’ at nothing in particular.

Physical Development at the start of 6 months old:

  • He is able to flip over from back to tummy
  • He can move on his tummy in a clockwise direction by twisting himself or moving his hands a little.
  • He can sit upright by himself, freeing his hands to play with toys for quite a while. We still have to be behind him to catch him falling backwards though.
  • He is able to stand for short periods holding onto something.
  • He can take little steps with us supporting underneath his armpits.
  • He turns towards me when I talk to him, telling him the names of stuff or just singing a song.
  • He likes to hold onto his feet a lot while lying down.

"I like to hold my feet!"

  • Is finally taking an interest in toys and is able to press the buttons of the musical toy we have/shake the rattle/turn wheel stuff/open & close stuff.

  • He is attempting to hold things with both hands too but still not quite good at it. Caught him grabbing the rattle with the right but then the left hand eventually got hold of it. A slight passing.
  • He still likes to mouth everything he can grab hold of and his favourite are cloth materials.
  • He can drag an object near him towards himself.
  • He measures about 69cm in height.

Vocal Development at the start of 6 months old:

  • He likes to jabber in a stream of ‘ah-yeeeeee-oooh-hoo-uuuhh’. With some of the syllabus being very high-pitched and quite noisy. But mostly talk only when left alone.
  • When I talk to him, he seldom reply but watches me intently.
  • When others talk to him, he will often give a response like, ‘hoo’.
  • Heard him say ‘bur’ one day when I said, ‘burp burp’ to him while burping him.
  • He blabbers during potty times, often go ‘hoo hoo hoo’.
  • He loves to laugh a lot when he’s happy.

Social Development at the start of 6 months old:

  • He has a littleĀ  stranger anxiety with both his grandparents and will cry sometimes when held by them.
  • He likes to smile at strangers though when he’s in our arms and will even laugh at their antics.
  • He observes other children with interest, especially running toddlers.
