It was an impromptu decision to visit the zoo today. We were just bored staying at home on a Sunday (though we went out on Saturday too ^^|) so we decided to check out the kingdom of animals with Darius.
Mandai was near to our house at Woodlands so it didn’t take long to reach there by cab. At the ticketing counter, we were deciding whether to be members of the Friends of Zoo so we can have unlimited visits to the zoo in a year, or just get the one-time entry passes. Deciding that we should give the place a try with Darius first to see if it’s worth returning to visit again soon, we bought the one-time passes at S$18 per adult. Darius can enter free as he’s below 3 years old.
The weather was cooling, with occassional possible rain looming with the dark clouds overhead. Not a bad day for a walk, as long as it didn’t rain.
Unfortunately though, Darius didn’t seem to be interested in the animals, as he was paying more attention to other things like waterfalls, leaves and trees, and the other ‘clothed animals’ walking around. Oh well, we couldn’t expect too much for his age but still we wanted to visit the bigger sized animals so hopefully he would be more attracted by them.
However on our way to where the ‘big animals’ like lions and giraffes were, Darius fell asleep. So we decided to detour and headed to the Rainforest Kidz World first to check out the place, which is famous for its water fun park for kids and the domestic animals there.
Raindrops began to fall as we were reaching there, so we quickly seek shelter at the KFC outlet and had our late lunch. As we were finishing up our food, Darius woke up and we strolled him to the water play park. The place was not exactly big, but there were many fun water stuffs for kids to play.
Unfortunately, Darius seemed too young for the crowded water park and so we decided to give it a miss this time, though we had brought along his swim gear.
We brought him to check out the goats and ponies, and though he still didn’t seem very interested in them, at least he managed to see them close-up.
From then on, he had been sitting on our carrier by my chest, which would enable him to have a clearer view as we walked near the animals at the various exhibits. This made him appreciate what he was looking at and also kept him awake throughout the entire journey.
With that, we left the zoo slightly after 5pm and headed home, tired but quite enriched. We were glad, however, that we did not sign up for the membership for Friends of Zoo since most likely we won’t be back till Darius is older and when he becomes more appreciative of the animals. ^^|
What’s an entry about the Singapore Zoo without photos of the animals? Before we end the post, here’s some of the beautiful animals we saw along the way:
No related posts.
we also have brought Matthias go to zoo during his 1yrs old.. but he also seem like not interested of it.. He only interested the fish..
but I read the book when they turn 1yrs old it’s good to bring them go to zoo.. let them exploring new things..
Did you go to see any elephant show??? or tiger feeding show? rainforest show?
But i think we must wait until they 2yrs old plus then they will know appreciate it.. maybe that time we very busy.. busy to explained to them.. what is that animal.. and what is that animal eating.. and came from where?? hahaha..
Ya think kids below 1 yr old are not interested in the animals yet. We wanted to give him more exposure to read animals cos he didn’t seem to like the animals he saw on books. o_0|
No, we didn’t get to watch any of the shows due to time constraint; will probably watch them with Darius when he’s older. We did manage to see the polar bear feeding session though, which was very entertaining.
Our next trip with Darius to the zoo will probably be some time from now…
